Everyone knew this was coming, but it's finally official.

“Obviously the premierships stand out as highlights, but they would not have been possible unless we all worked together along the way. I am confident that this will continue in the future with all of the young players that have joined the club in recent years."

Sensational career.

I was thinking about Scarlett the other day and realised I've got no idea about his life away from footy. Where to next for this mysterious man? Doesn't seem like the type to stay in the footy caper.

I wouldn't be too surprised if we never heard from him again.

One of the best I've ever seen in Geelong colours. The backbone of our recent era and a huge part of the culture shift that took the Cats from 'handbaggers' to a team built on hard work and winning. Will be sorely missed but should be remembered as an all-time great.

So much respect for Scarlett, and the way he exited the game reinforces that. Congrats on an awesome career, not much more he could have achieved!

What was he up to at the end of last years GF? I heard it on KRock coverage but have wondered what actually happened?

Someone asked the other day why they didn't chair him off. I'm glad they didn't; it would have been cringeworthy compared to the low-key way he went. I loved his style; casual raise of hand, just going about business yet again. Nice.

Exactly - and I hope that if that's what he wants, that's exactly what happens. We don't want another repeat of Gary Ablett Sr whereas a player who so obviously hated media attention and could not cope with it was subjected to it post-retirement no matter what he did.

He was pumping up the crowd in the dying minutes when the ball was in the Collingwood forward line, both out of bounds and in play! Amazing to see live.. You can actually catch a glimpse on the dvd.

Fantastic player, a legend of the Geelong Football Club and of the AFL. Thanks for everything Scarlo, classy career and retirement, well done:thumbsu:

Good luck to him with whatever he does next, but like others have said, seems like the type that would stay away from footy from now on.

Rumour has it he might play some games with South Barwon in the GFL next year.I gather that's his original club.
