Couldn't find a toast thread for Merrick & decided he needed his own.

Great article on him in today's paper and shows just how far he has come from his Cat B rookie days to now being a lock in our best 22.

Remarkably, he heads into today’s clash with Gold Coast without having conceded a goal against his primary opponent.

And it's not just the lack of goals conceded, but he is also restricting many of his opponents from accumulating high number of disposals.

No doubt he has been one of the biggest surprises for the club this year - the quiet achiever of the Misfits but maybe for not much longer

It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall .to see the way he would relate the system to any young irish man. With 2e and him.. we should now be trying to make the most of this while both are in the side. Are there any irish guys around 200? Im sure there is just not many seem to be that good.

I didn't mention him as he is not yet a success .. Id say MOC ..playing at the G, making decent money etc would be an easier sell than playing at some VFL venue with 300 die hards. Im not sure what the sell point is for the irish boys.. do they think its all Home and away or beach etc.. or is it just getting paid to play sport even if its some weird game. So while we have them if we can persuade and other star kid as MOC was... why not. We must have a spot we missed on the basketballer.

Im looking forward to see a bit to see Ok play.. he looks like he can hand the pyhsical stuff.

He is reaching deeper into his trick bag this year as his confidence grows. Great to watch.
When(if) Bews is fit, could O'connor get a run upfield as a mid/wing?

Used to play fast and loose. Now it's just loose.
Was never a shoulder to shoulder defender but has lost line breaking pace since the knee. Hopefully not permanently.

He's a good player, and will end up being a lot more than a good player.
His first half on Sunday was terrific.

Hs improved out of sight and is really doing well for an under 30 gamer. Plays just hard footy. Like a Dasher Milburn type not the most skillful but you will never die wondering if he's going 100%.

Credit to him and Wells and Scarlo for getting him up.

I was definitely not onboard the Oconnor train at the start of this year...but i am a fan of his work now.
Improving game by game and making a spot in the best 22 his own.

His defensive work has been excellent but his disposal is attricous and he knows it. He is one of the major reasons for our slow ball movement. He is to scared to move it quickly and take a risk so he slows the play up nearly every time he touches the ball.

Wow one play. There is a clip of zac smith shiimmying past mids in his one game this year. I could bring out half a dozen clips of menzel doing awesome run from behind tackles. It means nothing. Absolutely nothing.

And i said his defence has been excellent.
