Opinion Kamdyn McIntosh - Protected Species

I would like to preface this thread by saying I think Kamdyn has plenty of potential and will be a great player for us, but...

What is he doing each week that makes him, essentially, a protected species? He by no means has been setting the world on fire, yes he works hard, but as does Morris. For an out and out winger he needs to be making more of an impact throughout a game, not just the odd flash of brilliance.
I realise he does a lot of work off the ball, but in the game last night West Coast's wingers dominated.

Would like to see more from him.

Thoughts?

He's had just 2 quiet games this year. Might be due for a week or two in the reserves but he's been a big positive this year. Far bigger problems in the team.

Personally i think he's more a tall running defender. He has never really been a big ball winner. What he has always done well is defend well be accountable, kick well and run lines.

I agree, while i like Kamdyn a lot as a player he has been inconsistent and in and out of games a bit too much. But hey hes just played his 11th game, this should be expected shouldnt it?

Should be dropped. Rate him highly but he needs to understand his game is gut running like B Ellis. I suspect being a bit tired?

That's a good call. HBF is ideal. Reminds me of Tuck, but faster and more skills

Didn't do much wrong, just didn't get a lot of ball last night IMO

I think he needs a run as sub, but he plays a certain role for us out on that wing and they probably don't have anyone else they think can do it
I agree, I think he needs a stint as the sub. I would like to see Menadue given a couple of full games in McIntosh's position. They both have similar attributes, but Menadue has a bit of an x-factor about him.

I think so. I posted on other threads that i thought the backline needs an over haul to a degree.
I really like the idea of such a big quick hard running player like KM at hb. I also really like the idea of Connor Menadue playing of hb. He may be skinny and he may be a little ineffective atm.
Thing is if he reaches his potential we will have a super quick player with a massive tank who has sublime skills rebounding out of defense. He is a similar shape and size to Bob Murphy and i think he could become a similar type of player.

This past off season i wanted us to take in the nd one of Durdin or Lever and then go hard at Frawley and take Geoffrey Garlett.
I envisioned in two or three yrs time the following back half.
FB/ Vlastuin - Frawley - Rance
HB/ Menadue - Durdin - McIntosh.
I still believe this is the sort of quality where we need to get to in this area if we are to challenge.
The midfield and forward half also need work.

Still only his 11th game of AFL football, remember how many people used to bag Rance for being a dumb footballer early in his career?
He's got the tank and speed to play at the level and has had some great games along with some quiet ones.
Need to get him to 50 games as quick as possible

I am in Perth and saw him live a couple of weeks ago. I think he is fantastic. In my humble opinion (though my wife would argue my opinion is far from humble) it is not fair to judge his performance unless you are seeing him live. The hard running that outside runners do, is not captured well on TV. I can only go on the game against Freo but the guy ran to spaces, filled space and created contests so well. None of it gets mentioned, there are no stats but there are very few in our team who can run so hard and be a big strong body. If his form has dropped off I think he has some credit in the bank.

If in a few weeks and in the opinion of only those who are actually at the game he is not performing then fine, give him a rest but I think it is very important to make the distinction between reviewing his performance form TV vs being live at the game.

The thing with these young players(but not exclusively) is maybe more than others, their games are significantly impacted by the teams form. Not sure at this stage he should be dropped. I'm for waiting at this stage.
