Too simple for the AFL to work out.
Most North Melbourne and Collingwood fans have worked this out 3 or more years ago and yet every year since the topic comes up and North Melbourne have to wear a clash strip, when none is needed

Are North wearing the normal jumper this weekend (ie the one above)?

If so, no clash, predominantly light vs predominantly dark is easy to tell apart.

Its the dark vs dark clashes, like Adelaide vs Port last weekend that are tricky.

As a neutral supporter IMO...

1) Looking at the strips on paper/online (as in above)... I don't have an issue with it. You can easily tell the 2 teams apart.

However... depending on the day, the weather (ie wet/muddy), the light etc

2) At the ground and on TV those could easily become harder to tell apart... especially for players under pressure dishing off via instinct... just seeing a blur of white strips and darker lines.

Again, it is not hard for all clubs to have a darker and lighter strip, and still keep it a farbic of their heritage. For example: Collingwood's light strip could be similar to their H&A one except all the black sections are a soft grey, like a washed out black.

cheers

I think I just vomited at that suggestion. Our colours are black and white why the hell would we change it to white and grey? You've got to be kidding. We have a lighter strip, it's white with black stripes...or have you not caught one of the two matches we've worn it in this year?

Maybe the 'colour-blind' community has made a lot of complaints? Also with the amount of elderly fans that are short/long sighted or whatever, maybe they have complained too...

Why can't we all have home, away and clash jumpers? 3 different jumpers means possibly triple the income of merch, which is something that the poorer teams could use as an advantage if they do it before the wealthier clubs...

amazing that this is always raised every year
for over 100 years teams had away shorts and socks thats it.

the AFL and tv execs state that its too hard to tell teams apart on the telly.
dont be fooled its a marketing ploy for you to use your hard earned to buy clash strips.

remember watching the 60, 70 finals on the footy marathon in black and white coverage you could still tell the difference between Rich & Ess Nth & Coll.

as I state big marketing Ploy

Shit, it makes me wonder how we survived the days of black and white tv (I'm old enough to remember them) and games being played in quagmires.

the whole clash jumper rule or whatever they call it, needs an overhaul. west coast had to wear an all whote strip against us 2 weeks ago. tell me where is the clash between the bomber main jumper and west coasts main jumper

Both have dark backs with light numbers. Side on, the 2 jumpers are black and navy blue.

Out of the corner of your eye, it would be impossible to tell apart. To the chagrin of many on this thread it seems, modern footballers don't only look directly at a jumper before kicking it or flicking out a handball from the bottom of a pack.

They didn't have to, they were just trying to stimulate sales and make more money.

But what about the clash of numbers? Surely both teams cant wear the number 22 on the back???

How will we know who they are playing for?

Ones in black and the other is white;)

The issue is being raised cause one day North will have a home game against Collingwood. And once again well hear about this.
I just dont understand why the powers that be, cant listen to their members, their fans, the footy public alike and leave the gear as it is.
Tradition and history and pride. The answer is there in black and white and blue and white:mad:
