I don’t think we are better now. There was a YouTube who went down to Cronulla last Jan 26 and discovered there’s still an underbelly of racist flag waving sentiment in that area (second half of the video)



It happened because of the rise of anti-Muslim/Arab sentiment over the 5 years prior, Howard telling bogans they decide who comes to their home or not and egged on by Alan Jones telling bogans to bash “l*bs and w*gs”. If the bogans get another leader who whips up racist frenzy then who knows who will be the targets.

Why do we have local Councils flying the indigenous and TSI flags but not the Australian flag? Or at the Australian Open kids are offered washable tattoos of Australian flags - the Indigenous flag and TSI but not the Australian flag?

Last time I checked it is still our official flag but you would think it’s become optional

It is sad that flying ouyt flag now has these perilous connotations. It is unfair.

If I see someone flying it I don't jump to such conclusions.

I doubt many would, probably the axe grinders do, but there aren't really many of those in the real world.

Got two minutes in, just displays racist bogans and protesters of all stripes are very much minorities, they're all pissed off about something.

Of course media likes to stoke scenes like these to give the impression 'this is the norm', for revenue purposes, then those with fringe minded views just hyperbolise it all on social media.

I’ve just googled local councils and australian flags and haven’t seen a single article about any council refusing to fly an Australian flag. Sky and Murdoch media would be over that stuff if it was true.

I saw one article about a council on the central coast that news.com.au had run a article on hearsay......surprise, surprise

The council came out and said it was a blatant lie.
