I have to get something off my chest that I have had for the past few years .

Two parts -

1 Why we don't have a " real" Western Bulldogs person as our Stadium MC is beyond me . To have a guy that gets dressed up in the home teams gear and act like he's a supporter is pretty poor form IMO .
It doesn't needed to be a personality as such - just someone male or female with some "real" passion .

2 James Sherry as a MC is pathetic , his interviewing skills are cringeworthy . His ability to organize and present competitions etc on match day are deplorable . Yesterday's competition and quiz as an example .

Surely we can do better than this !

Great comment. I've long thought the same things.

Surely it can't be that difficult to find someone who actually supports the club too perform that role?

I cringe when I turn up at an away game and see that twerp Sherry wearing the polo shirt of whatever club is paying his wage that day.

On top of that, as you point out, he brings nothing speculation to the role.

I'm pretty sure he's employed by the stadium and wouldn't be on our books. He does the same role for any team that plays there from what I can gather.

I'm guessing the clubs provide the 'content' and he delivers as best he can. Not an easy gig turning that sh*t into something watchable, I've been behind the scenes for a lot of this half-time show things and there's is little to no effort/organization from the clubs themselves. They just want something that fills the dead air that happens to be in team colours.

Maybe we could be the team that turns it around, but you'd need a little bit of funding and some serious follow through from a couple of staff members. I know how these meetings generally go; "We like the idea, but cost outweighs the benefit."

As a bloke that works for Etihad
Sherry does a great job
he MC for all teams at Etihad and does a good job with such small amount of time and the amount of games that are played the information he needs to remember is important.

and its tough trying to be passionate for a team you don't follow, i ask you this dogman

You try and be passionate about one of your most hated teams and still have to pretend you care to give people the opportunity to be on the big screen and have a fun time winning prizes at the footy.

Relax Vital Dread surely I'm entitled to an opinion which I know is shared by virtually every other Bulldogs supporter I know.

Obviously your a James Sherry fan - so good for you .

I believe this is an opportunity for he club to market itself - with a passionate Bulldogs person on match day .

I think he's great with the kids and lets be honest, all the pre-game rubbish is for them and bogans that want free stuff. I'm always amused at what embarrassing things people will put themselves through for a free hat. I would say get rid of it all but I guess it's hard to keep kids entertained for an hour or so before the game and it does - in theory - help to create an atmosphere of an event.

It is cringe worthy going to away games though and seeing him. That's a fair call.

I've got nothing against Sherry but I do sympathise with dogman a little bit. He does a fantastic job of MCing for teams he doesn't support...but why should he have to?

I would love to see if we can get Will Anderson to agree to do it for home games. I've got nothing against Sherry, but I'd prefer it if a 'Dogs supporter did it (just not Gillard or I may never go to a home game again).

Or even Dave O'Neil or Russel Gilbert, we seem to have few entertainers that go for the Dogs. Would be so much better if it was one of our own doing it.

Wil Anderson would be a bit hard seeing as he lives in Sydney.

Nothing against the bloke, he is only doing his job, but it would be nice if we could do something different. It isn't actually that bad anyway.

You can't exactly call someone 'pathetic' in the name of having an opinion.

The guy is just there to present the game and give out a few prizes at half time, give him a bloody break. It's not his job to be passionate. Yeah we see him in different teams' colours at away games but really who cares, at half time most of us are too busy lining up for the pisser, lining to buy some more piss and then watching that one fat aus kick kid who plays full forward and then full back then they swap ends.

If Russell Gilbert got the gig, I think I might stop going to the footy. I've never found his "look at me, I'm stupid" kind of humour to be funny. He is about as entertaining as the rest of the tired old "Hey Hey" crew. Dave O'neil on the other hand........ that would be gold.

Alright, I'd still go to the footy, but I might turn up late each week and go outside at half time. And no offence meant to Russell, I'm sure he's a nice bloke. But he isn't funny.

Every thing you have stated are the exact reasons why it would be better to have someone who actually has a passion and knowledge of the club, not someone who has to learn and remember the information.

The club has made a good effort to turn the sterile, neutral Etihad Stadium in to something that resembles a home ground with the Footscray End initiatives. It could take it a step further and appoint a Western Bulldog MC, not a neutral MC in a Bulldogs shirt.

Don't mind it personally. Just a bit of fluff that hardly anyone pays real attention to anyway.

Having said that though, the Gold Coast Suns' MC Jess Skarratt is very easy on the eye and I usually always pay close attention whilst at games at Metricon. Couldnt tell you what she's blabbering about though.

Spot on. Would rather the club spend money on things that matter, rather than pay someone to do something 90% of the crowd ignores anyway.

As a passionate quiz-show geek, I will have none of this Sherry-bashing. :p However...

The club has made a good effort to turn the sterile, neutral Etihad Stadium in to something that resembles a home ground with the Footscray End initiatives.

Funnily enough, I was just about to start a thread along these lines. What's the general opinion as to the atmosphere of Etihad Stadium, at the present time? The Footscray End has clearly added to it, IMO, as well as having the advertising awnings display things like "Grant Pocket" and "The Doug Hawkins Wing" before the game.
(Mind you, when I first saw that in Round 1, I thought to myself "Holy crap, we've lost ALL our sponsors?!")

And on-topic, the addition of an actual Bulldogs MC (potentially someone well-known, like a Gilbert or an O'Neil) may be a case of "costs outweigh the benefits", but personally I think it can only help the most pressing cause of the club - the money we lose from our low Etihad crowds. The AFL promoted "Music at the Footy" for the MCG (and we had a crack with Rock of Ages); why not advertise a stand-up show pre-match? Alternatively, I support ditching the half-time show altogether, and putting greater focus on the AusKick games. Encourage the crowd to get involved and cheer for the kids! After all, we're supposed to have a policy of youth development and recruiting from within...

Does anyone else miss Woofer popping up on the big screen with, "woof, woof!" every time we kicked a goal? :p Good times. That was back in Colonial Stadium days, wasn't it?

I use to hate the comments he'd make though, I remember we were 10 goals down once and Eagleton kicked a goal and he was like "Come on Dogs still in this, we are coming".
