I am in despair. IMO we have many players out of form and one change!
I just cannot come to terms with the fact that a player such as Harris who can get the hard ball, tackles well and is in form misses out yet again.

For Gods sake when do some of you guys ever give up!
Harris has been at the Club for 3 years and is a mature 21 year old.If he was deserving of a spot in the team he would have been in ages ago.
Do you know more than the Selection Committee?
Similar comments for Shannon Motlop,Dylan Smith and others.

The continual bagging of Shane Clayton reminds me of similar bagging of Stuart Cochrane for years. He has shown his worth at Port where he has been appreciated.

creation,
i don't think that it is unreasonable to question the lack of inclusion of harris. our midfield has been down pretty much since the break. last week we hardly got any significant input from our main midfielders in harvey, grant and simpson. our second string midfielders in clayton and robbins were largely ineffectual. we relied on stevens, wells and rebounding from sinclair and makepeace. so there is every reason to expect some changes be made. to me harris seems the likely inclusion, if he is played in the middle (and not as a forward pocket).

as for his being at the club for three years... well i think most of us thought that he did well enough in his first game with us to suggest that he is a player. we can all see that he can provide something to our team.

I just find it mightily disconcerting that a side that has been so crap for a month can make only one change, when the deficiences are plainly obvious.

Creator read your comments !

Logic is not your strong point is it? You have supported my argument (inadvertently). Next year we will see Daniel Harris, Dylan Smith, S. Motlop et el playing for other sides where they will be “appreciated”. How the hell can we find out how good our younger players are unless we give them game time. We already know how “good” the onballers who get regular games are.
Look to the future as we will not reach the next level with the current team.

Harris is a one position player who has to play in the middle he is unable to hold down a small forward role as he does have enough pace and if he gets dragged down back his lack of height will be his undoing.

I think north should be looking for a trade with this player as he is not worth the postion he was picked at.

Go Roos

By the way i like the way he plays!!!!!!!!!!

.

Oh dear.

Catch the Essendon game this year? 21 posession off a HFF do it for you? The contested mark and goal in the last quarter?

They guy is a jet. String body, super hands, great tackler, great speed out of contests and 21 years old. You don't trade blokes that, nor do you sit back and do nothing while he rips the VFL apart, then go the next day and watch a few average footballer get good ground time in our "must win" game.

I would think that Harris is just about a certainty to play as it will be bucketing down won't it?

One Ruckman and Harris in.

One game makes you a champion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He played one good match if he was good enough he would be in the team as creator said just get over it.

Full Back is a massive problem and they have done nothing about that all year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go Roos

sometimes it seems that the thursday nite mob are happy with what weve got and now in contradiction to this we see laidley come out all agro and make only minimal changes over the last month where wins have been few and close calls at that.

i too am of the nature of rather seeing the harris type players get a game rather than possibly ;osing them due to a lack of oppurtunity at the roos we are building a team and should be very careful of what our criteria for a needed player is.

I just wanted another runner in the team and Harris was named as an emergency and the most likely to get in if a change occurred. If I see,in the last quarter,Spider,Ports and Digby sitting on the bench as we're being run off our legs then I won't be happy as this is definitely a game that required an additional onballer in my opinion.

i don't understand what the selection commitee are smoking, what possibly gain do they think they'll recieve from having harris out of the team? i going to go crazy soon!

What ever order you like. Oldest to youngest maybe?

I would have thought it'd roll off your keyboard since you are the one making the big statements champ.

And while you're at it, define the type of player we to have "too many of", and why Daniel Harris isn't up to the standard of others in this huge list you intimiate we have.

The only players i saw today who could step up into the Roos AFL
now were J.Clayton ,Colbert and sav. Probably Hale in a Forward role.

then again I didn't see the Port seconds

Daniel Wells Anthony stevens

Michael Firrito Shannon Grant

Jeremy Clayton Leigh Harding

Brent Harvey Shane Clayton

Adam Simpson

Michael Stevens

Ben Robbins

Ashley Watson

Thats a list

I just dont think he is what we want, but guess what mate its only an opinion but guess what its up to the club what they want and its not up too you me or anyone on here.

His game was n,t anything special today to warrant a promotion i here all this stuff how great he is and i have only seen it once in a match and i have seen a majority of his matches this year.

By the way we need forwards

Took you all that time to come up with that?!?!

Ok, the mind boggles at how you compare Daniel Wells and Michael Firrito, or Leigh Harding and Jeremy Clayton so i'm not even going to go near that one.

Yes its your opinion, and by all means, you're entitled to it. Harris is a 3rd year player who has been competing with some of the best players our club has ever seen for a spot in our midfield.

I ask you, if one of those who you've listed was to retire or go down with an ijury, who would be the next in line for promotion for that spot?

You call him a one position player. Now while i completely disagree with that premise, even it it was the case, gee how terrible that we have a hard running, pack-munching ball magnet who loves getting his hands on the footy and usually does something constructive with it when he does?!? A bloke who influences contests, brings other into the game with his outstanding hands, and who does have the capacity to provide score baord pressure?

I've seen alot of Richmond games this year. I havent seen Mark Coughlan play too far outside the center square. Ditto Peter Bell. Ditto Simon Black.

Why? Because they are great at getting thier hands on the ball when its at its hottest and using it. And they run, hard.

Sure, you're basing your assesment of Harris on a few senior games off the bench, and ignoring the fact that when he has been given a decent amount of game time, he has actually produced. When he hasn't yes, granted, he has struggled. As did Adam Simpson at stages of his career. And Brent Harvey. And Shannon Grant when he was in Swans colours...

Put Harris into a side where he doesnt have to compete with players who are amongst the best their club has ever seen for a spot where he plays his best footy, and he'd be spoken about in similar terms as Mark Coughlan.

But thankfully for Harris, attrition and natural list turn over might not be too far away from changing that scenario for him. But oh no, lets trade him off just when he is on the cusp of getting that opportunity and delivering on the undeniable talent that we've all heard our various coaching staff talk about and have all seen with our own eyes.

Bugger the future. Stevo will be right to go for another 5 years wont he?

I agree with you 148%

BUT

Playing devils advocate.. why does Laidley not see it the same way? Why does he see fit to have Harris in the twos, and when in the seniors only spend limited game time on the ground?

The only logical theory IMHO is that, while allowing Stevens and Robbins some time to be surpassed by the likes of Harris, Harris will only come on as a burst player to provide fresh legs as needed and give some bite around the packs on a flank when our defensive pressure at the forward 50 is at a minimum, and most importantly GAIN EXPERIENCE at the top level.

By that logic though, it's completely contradictory to why Hale doesn't get a game as a bloke who can plug gaps off the bench, in the forward line or ruck.

Oh, i forgot to address this little chestnut.

Really?!? You mean to say you're not on the coaching staff?! And that i'm not?! And that anyone here isn't?!

Bugger!

Here i was, all this time, under the illusion that Bigfooty was actually The Doc, Walshy and Laidley and co's main source of reference when making any club related decisions?!?! Here i was thinking that because i might be able to string the odd word together, that Laidley was going to sit up and take notice of all my views on players, their strengths and weaknesses and where i believe they should fit into our team structure.

I'm shattered.

How long has this not been the case for?!?! Is everyone else aware of this ruse?!

Shinners, can you advise the mods to close the whole thing down mate? Woosha's exposed this site for the farce that it is:

a mere DISCUSSION BOARD WHERE PEOPLE EXPRESS THIER VIEWS, OPINIONS AND SHARE INFORMATION OF A FOOTBALL RELATED MATTER KNOWING FULL WELL IT ISN'T GOING TO INFLUENCE THINGS ONE IOTA!!!!

I would never have believed it.

Why indeed. Its questions like this that turn me to qauntities of cigarettes and alcohol that arent good for me.

I've asked the man himself (Harris, not Laidley) this exact question. Its all to do with suitable matchups and the fact he has older, more experienced players who Laidley sees as preferential AT THE MOMENT to him. But he has also been told that wont be forever....

Which makes any suggestion to trade him at this stage of his career all the more non-sensical IMO.
