Usually do one of these before the trade period but was caught-up with other stuff this year so here is my post-trade period update! This is what I have at the moment. As you can see, firstly the list is STACKED in terms of talent (which we already knew) but is also pretty close to being completely full as it is. If what I have is correct, then we have 36 primary list, 4 Cat A and 1 Cat B locked in for next year which leaves us with limited options in terms of drafting next month and SSP/MSD in 2025.

If I had to guess, I'd say we are likely to delist-then-rookie one or both of Gunston and/or Breust for flexibility. Regardless, we can only intake a max of 2 players to primary/Cat A list at the moment plus the option of another Cat B player if we want (which I suspect we will re-sign Bennetts with).

As usual, if you spot any mistakes then please let me know :)

That port loss really becomes such an interesting game in how this side builds. Take away any missing pieces from that game we had everything to win it but the loss did more to steal the side then ports win did to theirs.

I am excited to see where we get to by 2027, I can see such an enormous growth to come, not to take away from this year, we should be aiming for top 4 at a minimum with a settled defence.

The focus on the growth from Wiz, Weddle, Dear, Mackenzie and Newcombe with Nash, cj and ward trailing closely behind this season will be the difference.

The only thing I want to see more of is a senior effort to support a harder edge, some of the kids have been pushed around slightly and a fair amount of dirtyness in the hits (plenty of key moments from tigers, gc, port, bombers, Carlton games off the top of my head) and they can take it but theirs a level we need to go to that should help the team. I think once this clicks we will have easier patches in games.

Fingers crossed Dear will be fit and firing come finals.

I mean you can play this game with every club. There will always be hits, misses and sliding door moments.

The important thing is (aside from the crapshoot 2020 draft) we seem to have largely drafted well from 2019 onwards.
True, I would also say that during that period we didn't value the draft hence making the whiffs seem worse

Yes agree.

And the Hard edge, take no crap mentality that will create hesitance in opposition will come with maturity.

Great to see Bruest back in. Hopefully he can have an impact.

Will be interested to see how we structure up forward and back.

Stringer and Hogan are likely to be underdone so good opportunity to hurt them on the rebound. Stringer in particular is allergic to defensive acts so hopefully we exploit that.

Hogan won’t be able to dominate the air like he did in Canberra last time. Big test for Barrass as this is the exact type of forward we recruited him to cover.

Go Hawks!

From that list I see 3 potential retirees In Breust, Gunston and Frost.

1 potential FA in Worpel.

4 Players who are out of contract this year that may seek a trade and have some trade value.Jai Serong, Josh Ward, Sam Butler and Seamus Mitchell.

5 Players that will still be in contract and could request a trade. Bailey MacDonald, Henry Hustwaite, James Blank, Ned Reeves and Mitchell Lewis.

1 potential delisting in Jasper Skaife.

For trade and FA targets, Oscar Allen, Pettracca and Harley. Oscar as a FA, could see Skaife being delisted and or Lewis being traded out. The other 2 I think will be harder to obtain and are more likely pipe dreams than reality and would require a huge cut to our depth in trying to acquire them.

Not everyone on them lists will be traded, retire ect. I would rather trade the players that are looking for more opportunity elsewhere, and look at using our draft picks for the draft.

So Scaife has gone from being a potential debutant this season to being delisted?

I accept he has a bit to work on, but he's shown more than enough to suggest he would be very very comfortable at AFL level.

Saying 'we dont need Reid' is ludicrous and the height of arrogance.

We look bloody good with loads of potential, but you can always get better. I would happily part with our first and future first for him, though that might not be enough.

He is having a rough time but he is still a kid, he is going to be a superstar that will win games regularly like Martin did.

Imagine adding Reid to this current midfield group.

Throw in Oscar as a FA. We may never lose again.

Then I reckon Mitch Lewis is on trade table. I don’t see how Allen chol dear and Lewis all play in the same time. Great depth but those players aren’t hanging around to play at box hill.

Right now Dear and Lewis are injured and Lewis and Allen both have very iffy history with injuries. Its unlikely all 4 will be fit at once so why would we trade Lewis?

Its guys like Scaife who would be in trouble, not Lewis.

I hope we keep him. If we get Oscar Allan as a FA, he could end up being a delisting casualty. I agree with with you, he has a little bit to work on, how ever I think he will become a great asset, once he starts to establish himself. Which is why I won’t be disappointed if we don’t get Allen. As I do think a young core of Dear, MacCabe and Skaife will be a great forward line in 2-3 years time.

We have been on the lookout for a proper medium sized half frwd for a couple of seasons. The one we've been interested in is a premiership player from the lionsl!!
Would take a first rounder to lure him out, he knocked us back once. Would love to add Zac with Oscar, then our frwd stocks would be as strong as our backs for a fair few years to come .

WM is the silk that's missing from our midfield.
I can't think of another current midfielder with his class and productivity, let alone one as young.
Most of them are brutes, athletes, or moderately skilled.
Even Reid, the player I want the most, doesn't have WM's level of disposal quality.

MacKenzie could get there in time, but I think WM has an extra dimension to his play.

We don't have a Mr fix it type midfielder also, if the midfield is getting smashed like Burgoyne used to get in and get clearances.

Get allen for free, send Mitch to the lions for a 20s pick, send that to Melbourne with a hustwaite type and get fritsch
This isn’t super coach.

Time for this thread to be locked so we don’t have more pages of stupid hypothetical trades.
