Why would our club be stoked about giving all our picks up when they literally openly said they are going to go to the draft and get talent.

You are imagining us wanting to the deal you want. That trade sucks for anyone that’s not WCE.
I’d rather keep Harley than that deal, just stating how Essendon would feel.

What not winning a final for 20 years does to a mf.

You are insane if you would spend two top 6 picks on HR.
Depends. If it's 2 top 3 picks, then yeah. If it is 5 and 6, then I'd think about it. Truth is, we haven't had any top end talent for 20 years because we never finish low enough to draft them or trade them in.

Reid's ceiling is elite. Obviously we'll continue monitoring his form, but at this stage, his talent is worth a decent return in draft picks.

If we have two top 6 picks, then it's fine if we go to the draft before Tassie comes in. It would be nice to get Reid but it's also fine to go to the draft.

As for West Coast, I doubt they would reject two top 6 picks when the alternative is losing him for a late first and a future first next year (Hawthorn's).

If he is going to leave, then cashing in now with Tassie coming in means they could have 4 top 8 picks. Pick 1, 2 (Allen compensation), Essendon + Melbourne's first.

West Coast won't get an offer better than that for Reid.
Yet Reid doesn't want to go to the Dons

ok I guarantee you we don't feel that way, considering that is not what the club has told the public and its supporters.

I agree you should keep Reid.

EFA.

2 x Top 10 picks is on the money.

WC aren't interested in 'on the money' this year. That is next year's concern should it come to that.

3 x Top 10 Picks is what is fanciful. Not even mid 20's prime time Chris Judd went close to that.

Prime Chris Judd was traded in an era when future pick trading was not permitted. He still netted 3 and the player taken at 4 two year prior in the deal. The quirks of the system at the time meant Richmond had pick 1 in the PSD but not the ND which reduced Carlton's leverage slightly. It's not WC fault that Carlton rated getting Matt Kruezer higher than keeping Josh Kennedy.

Essendon's future picks will be Top 10's also.

Probably. But Gold Coast thought that when they traded with us in 2017. Collingwood gave up a first round pick to Freo expecting it would be in the 20s. No guarantees.

WC should just keep him if he's that valuable to you. No Club, even one as dumb as Essendon (and make no mistake we are dummmmmmb) is going to give you that deal for this kid.

That is 100% the plan.

Essendon is on the record saying they will get talent through the draft. That statement and spending our entire draft hand on a fat, lazy kid doesn't add up.

You are better off re-signing him, or deal with hawks next year. Either way bombers should play no part if 3 x Top end firsts is the asking price. I'd laugh myself out of the room and get on VA680 back to Melbourne and forget it.

No one knows what the Bombers will actually do. I have already said I wouldn't pay overs to get Harley Reid a year early this year, just what I think it would take to do so.

Could’ve had Smith, Draper, Langford or Smillie.
They could move back to pick 7 and got enough currency to get Baker.

Get Owies, Allen and Baker for pick 3 was terrible.

They could have traded Barass for pick 14 and then on traded to get Baker. Still keep pick 3. Instead they tried to get more for Barass.

Then they could have trade pick 3 back a few spots and maybe get a got another pick that might have landed Allen.

So many options but they went for Owies who is 28.

Didn't Essendon have picks 6,7,8 in 2020?

Why are you telling us what we would be stoked about?

That deal is shit for us
It'll be close to what you need to pay.

Whether that's a good thing for Essington or not, is yet to be determined.

I'd say you'll pay 3 R1's and receive 2x R2's back for your trouble.

For who would be your best midfielder by length of Mount Alexander Rd (outside of ZM).

Stops the rot for the Dons.

Dumbest trade I can recall been an eagles supporter myself

Trading for a contracted player and expecting to win is a whole other level of craziness

who said giving 2 x Top 10 picks for a kid who is regressing a win for anyone?

Thats just a fair trade considering the situation IMO.

If he wasn't contracted, he wouldn't be getting that offer.

This would only increase our rot. Reid would go no way near our best midfielder, you would only hope he does in the future, and based what he is dishing up this year is far, far away if at all.

And it would go against everything Essendon has told its members, and the wider AFL landscape in that they said they would go to the draft for talent.

I'm, not arguing that it may take 3 firsts to get Reid out of WC, I'm just saying whoever does it is a stupid club. So on that basis, Essendon may actually do it.

We took the long road to get here, but glad we did.

exactly

just trust Rosa to rebuild and not do what Dodoro did and miss picks.

It's a risk, but sending three 1st round picks for a kid who's showing absolutely nothing is a worse risk IMO

It depends on the list profile of where the trading team is at.

For Hawthorn, it would be the cherry on top of the cake.

For Essendon, trading that much when you don’t have the list would be stupendously idiotic.
