Geelong or Hawthorn?

Who has been the better team over the last 10 years?

Geelong have been so dominant and only 1 season that they failed in by missing finals. They have win 3 flags from 4 GF'S.

Hawks have also been super consistent with their beautiful game style. They have won 3 flags from 4 GF'S.

I'm leaning to Geelong more as they had that streak over the hawks for so long. Hawks probably have a better game style and scoring ability.

Geelong did more in a condensed time frame but it's hard to beat Back to back. Plus the fact that Hawthorn took one in their prime must count for something.

Hawks for mine.

HawHawks having b2b rates well but if you look at it both did it sorta similarly to get their three grand finals straight outcomes.

We missed finals in 09, got our pants pulled down in 10, and were cooked in 11. Cats were more consistent with 5 straight top four finishes, and they racked up a huge amount of wins in the H & A season.

Geelong for mine as a team. Although you could argue as a club Hawthorn's accomplishments are greater, essentially rebuilding a premiership side around a small core and doing it largely through trading.

The Geelong 2007-2011 side were largely 1 group of players (14 played in both 2007 and 2011) whereas only 6 players from Hawks played in both 2008 and 2014. I view the Hawks 2008 and 2013-14 as different sides and their accomplishments shouldn't be lumped together.

Stupid thread.

The only stat that matters is flags, Cats and Hawks both have three in the post 2000 era. Cats probably more consistent, Hawks probably more ruthless at taking their chances, etc etc. Cats had some handy father sons, Hawks had some priority picks and good trades. You could argue the Hawks had softer grand finals but then one of them was against the Cats and the Cats got to play Port for one of theirs. Etc etc x infinity.

In truth, it's roughly equal, no point arguing about the finer points of it. Both great teams.

Well done Hawks, you belong with the Lions and Cats as one of the great teams of the last couple of decades.

Geelong as the better team for mine on their best day.

Overall, Hawthorn has accomplished more.

Do the Lions get into this conversation?

Geelong started their push in 2004, making the prelim that year with 2006 being the year we missed out, before winning 3 flags between 2007 & 2011. We are in transition now and have been for a few years, so I find it hard to view our current line up as the same as the ones which were dominant 4 seasons ago, but to still be finishing top 4 at the end of the h/a season while transitioning is a credit to how the club is going about things. If Geelong wins a flag in the next year or 2 it doesn't feel like it belongs alongside the team/group which won the flags between 2007 & 2011 as we now have a new core group coming through trying to create their own identity.

Hawks last finals appearance before 2007 was in 2002, they missed the finals in 2009, bundled out the first week of 2010 (which we did in 2012). Full credit to them for their 3 premiership since 2008 and especially well done with the back-to-back. Should the current Hawks side which has played the last 3 gf's be grouped together with the 2008 winning team or should we look at their last 3/4 years as being a new start and new era for the Hawks and see what happens over the next 5 or 6 years as to how many premierships this line up walks away with?

Across the past 10 years, I would have them equal, but another flag to the Hawks in the next 2 or 3 seasons would see them jump ahead.
