Lets face it. Doesn't look too good for Cloke.

Fraser played as an emergency tonight and plays this sunday listed as CHF in the vfl side against the tigers' 2nds.

Been in good form lately bagging goals and a game like this could show MM that he is massive potential to play as a temporary/permanent forward in the afl side.

Who's going to the game?

He may well earn a spot. But I sure as hell don't want him in the side as a permanent forward (or ruck for that matter).

Wouldn't be against just playing Dawes/Brown up forward, with more smalls lurking.

Brown is doing enough to justify his spot in the team and Jolly seems to be playing better as the sole specialist ruckman. Doesn't need to be changed imo.

I would rather see Medders or Davis (or maybe both?) come in.

Especially against St Kilda next week going small is the much better option, with the saints small defender stocks greatly weakened by the suspension of Baker.

I'm not one to hold grudges, but with Josh Fraser it seems that many forget far too easily.
Josh has had a great career, all you could ask for as a number one pick. Our one lone ruckman who battled on for nigh on a decade.
However with Jolly's arrival and Leigh Brown starting to string decent games together as a backup ruckman and forward, to me it seems Josh cannot warrant selection unless he truly breaks out in the VFL and starts to show the promise and hunger that has been missing all year in the firsts bar ANZAC day and small periods in other matches. Whenever he lines up, it seems to me that he doesn't go in hard enough, bust packs or execute a tap nearly as well as Jolly and Brown in recent form.

Hopefully Jack won't get suspended as I'd love to see what a two pronged Jack and Dawes strike force could muster up.

In the VFL tomorrow we have;

Medhurst
Fraser
Rounds
J.Thomas
MaCaffer

And returning from injury should be;

Maxwell
Dick
Davis

Plenty to choose from, Davis and Maxwell are "certs" if fit, then it gets interesting.

Do we risk Dick with his shoulder?
Do we use Fraser, MaCaffer or Medhurst as Cloke and Anthony's replacements?
Does Rounds or Thomas deserved a debut?

Better to have "good" questions then bad ones IMO.:)

The VFL game tomorrow will decide a lot you would think.

Play Fraser, Caff, Rounds, Thomas and Meds all up forward, and see who "earns" a spot.

More interested in giving Medders another chance.

Quite happy with Jolly & Leroy at the moment. Josh needs to compete for those spots (i.e. ruck).... he just isn't a forward / doesn't give much value as one at senior level.

Yeah agree. good post. Josh's career would've been a whole lot easier if we had another Jolly guiding him, kinda what him and Jolly are doing with Wood right now.

Fraser doesn't have the physical capacity to run around all day as much as we love him for his services in his career, he's following the same career path as did Rocca in his last few years, struggling with injuries and weather it be confidence, just cant handle the pace and pressure of the midfield these days.

That's why i want to see him forward- can be strong 1 on 1.

I don't want to see Anthony play next week against st.kilda... we'll get smashed if he is going to play how he played tonight.
St.kilda's defence has bigger bodies then our forward line atm.

stop it. you're making it sound harder to think now. :D

I'd play Macaffer or Medhurst at CHF/FF well before I'd choose Fraser to play there. In fact I'd probably choose to play Blair as a marking forward before Fraser :p

Look at the teams who have beaten stkilda this season they have done so with speed.

We cannot take fraser into this game...even if trav and JA are rubbed out we should not consider fraser at all.

Davis/medhurst/Rounds....sweet merciful jeebus please pick Rounds!

Theres no baker so at least one of the smalls will be off the leash for the night

we need to be as quick as we can be and we can win

I said it elsewhere... but Maxwell playing CHF? Not his kettle of fish, obviously, but he has a v good contested mark and tank. As a defender he'd know how all the good forwards position themselves...

We just seem to be thin on alternatives. L Brown out of FF Dawes out of CHF the only other combo that might work?

Fraser will get the recall out of respect to him as opposed to actual necessity I reckon. Always seems to be the case with him. Ideally Davis would return to the side, but bringing Medhurst back in prematurely would be catastrophic, I don't think the Saints game is the one we want to bring him back for. Ease him back into it the following week against Richmond.

Doesn't have the physical presence to be a permament forward. I wouldn't mind trying a smaller foward line against the Aints.

I would'nt drop Leroy for Fraser.

I doubt that Jack will be suspended. Cloke a definite.

Maxwell will be back. No need to change anything else.

They probably will bring in Josh for Travis if he's suspended.

I'd prefer they just played Anthony exclusively up forward and brought Rounds in.

Mind you, if Anthony's also out, they may not have an option.

You have failed to mention Wood IS PLAYING in the vfl TOOOOO tomorrow incase you are trying to write him off -- I question the facts that some people on this site try to quote sometimes cannot even name all the players on the Collingwood list????

Would someone please explain exactly what it is that Fraser will bring to our forward line? He is slow, incapable of taking a contested mark and rarely lays a tackle. Yep, sounds like the perfect candidate!

Dawes in the square and Leroy at CHF. Bring in Davis and Dick. We can rotate players through CHF. When Jolly rests at FF , Dawes can go to CHF. I'd prefer to see Maxwell there ahead of Fraser. I don't care how well he plays in the ressies.

I'm afraid i agree with this. Esp vs saints, god they'd have a field day running the ball out of defence.

Play small against their backline, run them around, put pressure on their movement from defence.

Until Josh can lose his expressionless face and find one with some intensity written all over it, he should play reserves.

Jack shouldn't have played this week anyway, even without Trav.

If Daisy goes for one, then Rounds v likely?

if he gets recalled it will be because Cloke is suspended and Fraser is the next best tall by a large margin - which he has shown in his 2 weeks back in the VFL.

This is exactly what i think will happen !

Also, like Peter Moore suggested last week, Fraser should've previously been tried down forward more often in his past, not sure i'd want to experiment with this theory now ? .. especially if we had to let him have a tryout period of 3 weeks or so, too risky being so close to end of season, but previously i think he's done well there, but never been positioned there in many consecutive games to see the true picture, however i do think he is slowing down and appearing to lose interest.

+ Perhaps this is just me, but i'd also like to see the likes of : B.Reid, A.Toovey, J.Anthony replaced with better players, McCaffer is another i have'nt had much faith in either.

replace Reid? There is a new one... Shaky start but finished strong after what happened initially I thought.

Prefer Fraser in 2 weeks time not now, he will do shit all vs Saints.

What better players do you intend to replace these guys with Mal.

Yeah, its just you.

I didn't fail to mention Wood, I DID IT DELIBERATELY.

He has been shithouse, even at VFL level, although he did play as well, if not better then Fraser yesterday.

I do not want Josh Fraser to play next week, he had a lot of the ball as basically a key forward in the VFL, but he wasn't exactly "on fire", and his ruck work against Max Bailey was worse then McNamara's, let alone Woods'.
