Ok, I only ever recall tipping against port once and that was in 2001. They ended up winning and I felt like a ****.

I can never tip against my own team. If my team wins, I have the bitterness of 'not having believed in them' afterwards and suffering in the tips. If my team loses, then sure I get the tip but I don't want to feel a 'victory' of some sorts in terms of the actual team loss.

I'm sure you get my point.

This never affected my tipping in 00/01/02, in which I came 1st, 3rd and 2nd respectively. However, last year was the first year I had tipped since then and I did horridly (despite port doing well). This year I'm up to 11 at the moment so a decent but obviously not fantastic start.

Basically, do you ever tip against your own team, if whilst trying to be unbiased, believe with your brain that your team is most likely to lose?

I'm interested to see your thoughts.

Tip against them... I bet against them, regularly.

1. Any NAB preseason game when Roos is coach = easy money
2. First few rounds of the year against good opposition = easy money (although I had to sweat for my money against the Saints)
3. Whenever we play Adelaide and lately Collingwood

In saying all that, I am just as happy when I lose the money but my team wins. :)

I never tip against Freo.

That's why I never win any tipping comps.

I have tipped against Essendon once and this was about 10 years ago against West Coast at West coast. We won that night so i have never tipped against them again. I don't take footy tipping seriously so i don't mind costing myself tips like on the weekend when i tipped them against the Cats.

I will however pick against them when i am betting but i try and avoid having them in my bets if possible.

lol what if your a melborne supporter playing geelong??? comming of 2 100 point thrashings?

I never used to tip against Essendon, but last year I came last in the tipping comp with my mates and had to wear a Richmond jumper on a night out as punishment!

So this year, I'm not coming last again!

There's being loyal, then there is just being realistic.

Have tipped against the Dons many times in recent years and will continue to do so, most of the times I've been right. Still love the club and want them to win every game they play and would prefer getting the tip wrong, I don't think it makes you a bad supporter if you tip against your side. Others disagree though.

I don't really see the point in always tipping your team, I mean it's not like your somehow betraying them or something i fyou don't. I tip who I think will win, and back in 2000 and 2001 that meant against the Saints most weeks, but it was worth it to beat my Dad and Uncle etc. in the family tipping comp and take home some money :thumbsu:

I agree with you. Even if I tip against my team, I still want them to win. You just have to be realistic, if you seriously want to win tipping competitions.

I cant bring myself to tip against the boys. I did once, but it didnt sit right so never have since. Thankfully the Hawks are a decent team these days, so hopefully it wont stuff me up to much anymore. :D

If you're not prepared to tip against your own team then you're not really in the tipping comp to take it seriously. Our tipping comp is worth a thousand bucks - hence I tip with my head and not my heart.

Similarly the Dreamteam/Supercoach comp won't be won by an individiual who picks a squad full of his own team's players.

I don't tip against Essendon often. But I don't bet money.

When Essendon play Collingwood in the ANZAC day game, I will always tip my team. You never know what Collingwood will do even if they are red hot and Essendon are cold.

But games like on the weekend you just have to tip against your own team for the good of your footy tipping score.

I never used to tip against the Bombers & my tipping results suffered accordingly. As much as I love them, if you are in tipping comps, you have to tip with your head & not your heart. I tipped the Bombers in round 1 & against them in round 2. so got both tips right. :thumbsu:
