Hey guys.
Can someone explain prices for seating at the MCG.
I know that MCC members are invite only so to speak but the others im a tad confused about

1 - What are AFL reserve seats? are they each clubs membership seats or are they the AFL Membership Total game seats?

2 - Club Members and Public Reserve, how do they determine what clubs get what seats compared to general public or is it first in best dressed?

3 - Is Premium Reserve seating for the club memberships?

4 - For club members or general admission where are the best seats to get for a game.

I got told the wings are always good to get so:
M12 M13 M14 M15 M16
or
M50 M51 M52 M53 M54

5 - Do tickets for all games go on sale at the start of the year, i tried to get tickets to essendon vs richmond round 8 and it says allocation exhuasted

Why not just ring ticketek and ask them to explain what options are available, or go to the AFL website

AFL Reserve is for AFL total game members only.
I think club members have reserved bays in the Ponsford and Olympic stands.

I don't exactly know how it works, but I don't think they release all tickets at the start of the year.

The current allocation that has been released may be exhausted, but they will most likely release more closer to game day.

1. AFL Reserve means AFL members.

2. Club members get a pre-sale before public seats go on sale, after that ends its mostly the same, although some clubs have specific sections left for certain types of members (eg for a few games Geelong social club members can reserve a seat on level 2 in the Southern Stand, those that are left aren't sold to the public until a week before the game).

3. Premium means that it is a better seat. From memory all of level N and P are premium, as well as on M level close to the wings. A lot of premium seats are allocated to the expensive club memberships, but you can buy them from ticketek depending on the game.

4. The best reserved seats are probably level 2, followed by level 1 closer to the wings (ie M 10-15 and 50-54 like you said). Very unlikely these will be general admission, except maybe at a Melbourne v GWS game or something. Where the GA is depends on the game, changes for every game and is not decided upon until the day of the match. It depends how many reserve seat tickets sell. You can only buy these on match day (except for a couple of exceptions this year, can't remember which games). For any big game GA will be level 4 only.

5. Public tickets for all games except round 23 go on sale at the start of the year. AFL members go on sale one month before the game (I think, could be wrong there). Not all tickets are released at once, generally levels 1 and 2 go on sale first, starting with the best seats. Then, as these sell they open up more. It is different for every game, depends on what kind of crowd they expect. Eg for Anzac Day, all tickets go on sale at once. For a smaller game, they might open them up quite slowly. I'm not sure what's up with the Richmond v Essendon game, it didn't sell out last year. They may not have opened up the next block of reserved seats yet, although that would be unusual, it usual happens automatically as they sell. Try ringing Ticketek or going into an outlet and getting them to check for you.

Pretty sure more public tickets go on sale a few weeks prior to the game.

The Richmond / Essendon game should have more tickets released in the next few weeks.

1. AFL members reserve is for AFL members. You can join as a silver member, but have little or no rights to GF. I'm not 100% sure but I think waiting period is around 8-10 years to gain full AFL membership.

2. At MCG clubs have pre-sold many seats in packages. I'll talk Collingwood here as that is what I know best. We have sold lots & lots of 17 home & away game packages with reserve seats. These are normally on level N & P in GSS & Ponny and best seats in GSS on level M and behind the goals in the Ponny for Collingwood home games is all sold to collingwood members.

Some members buy a non-allocated seat ie what is known as a general admission. You can then upgrade that membership to a reserve seat on the day, by buying a premium and standard seat. You wuld normally want to buy 2-3 weeks before the game, depending on the clubs involved.

The AFL & MCG leave a number of bays available for walk-ups on the day. These are normally in the top decks of GSS, Ponny & Olympic stand. You can get details of these sections off MCG website 1 week prior to the game. The "bigger the game" the more seats are pre-sold in premium and standard areas. So a Collingwood vs Carlton will be called "all ticketed game - no walk-ups" ie you must buy either a seat or have standing room ticket.

3. Premium seating are available to general public you just have to get in early. All games for 1st 22 rounds can be booked now thought ticketek website for MCG (I think Etihad is thru ticketmaster)

4. Best seats for GP are in M50-M52 Olympic or M8-M15 in GSS but many of these seats are already gone as pre-sold seating in packages esp in GSS. If you dont mind sitting up higher Q49-Q52 in top deck of Olympic gives good viewing.

5. The Essendon game vs Richmond is the "dream time game" at the 'G. Tickets would be selling fast for this game already. Last 2 crowds have been over 85k. Checking ticketek website there are still seats in GSS and Ponsford stand, but Olympic is sold out.

Sorry to hijack this old thread but it came up in a search when I was looking for information on seating and a few people on here seem like they could help. Have just signed up to this forum but can't start a new thread for 10 days :S

Anyway, I'm just looking at tickets for the Carlton v Collingwood game in May and I have the choice of row M51 CC or Q49 B - what would be my best option here?

Thanks (and apologies again)

M is bottom level 29 rows back. Q B is 2nd row top level. Personally I'd go bottom level. They are both approximately half way between wing and the 50 arc

Thanks Max Power 83. Have seen them on the seating plan - and generally I'm sitting in the nosebleeds as someone else has always bought the ticket (which has been fine as there's not really a terrible view at the MCG). However, this time I'm responsible for buying the tickets for someone coming from overseas who has never been, so I want to give them the best experience possible. I have the bottom level tickets already, just wondering if I should change them. Thanks again.

For someone coming from overseas I think you would want to be closer up to get the best atmosphere / feel for the game. I would stick with the M level seats. If you wanted to try a higher level view (ie level Q) you could always wander up to the top level later in the game, should be plenty of spare seats up there.

Thanks milhouse1, seems the ones I have get the votes. The person I am taking knows the game (follows it from the UK), so I think the live atmosphere will be the selling point. Cheers!

Go the Q49 option. You'll be battling to make out what's happening on the other side of the ground if you sit on level 1. The first few rows of level 4 (Q) are great imo. You won't miss a thing

A few weeks ago, some of you helped me with tickets for the Carlton v Collingwood game at the MCG. Now I'm just about to buy tickets for a friend (their first time seeing a live game) and myself (Carlton supporter) to the Carlton v Essendon game at the MCG in early May. Have the following options:

Ponsford Stand
Category: Level 2 Goal
Section: N29
Row: G
Seat/s: 14-15
for $120

or

Great Southern Stand
Category: Level 1 Goal
Section: M7
Row: Z
Seat/s: 4-5
for $90

or

Area: Olympic Stand
Category: Level 4 Front
Section: Q49
Row: C
Seat/s: 22-23
for $70

I'm happy to sit anywhere, but wondering what would be best for first timer? The lower seats are near the goals, so also just wondering which end the Carlton cheer squad will be for that game. Can't find anything online to tell me.

Thanks in advance!

Might be good to ask, the Carlton board about cheer squads. But I'd personally go the first when it comes to first time experiences. Sight lines, can take in the size of the G which is part of the spectacle.

I've tried 4th tier seats as a first time, in an 80,000 crowd, admittedly it was soccer, which was ridiculously boring so technically the game wasn't quite so conducive to a good experience. But... footy is better on the lower levels.

Hey guys, I just purchased tickets to ANZAC Day. Section M55 and row PP. Can you describe the seats? What part of the section are they at?

Cheers

I replied to you on the Carlton board regarding our cheersquad. My personal order of preference for your 3 options would be Level 2, then Level 4, then Level 1. I hate level 1, but that's just me.

Out of those I'd take the Olympic stand option, as it is only the third row of level 4, and Q49 is on the wing next to MCC, so great view of the match. You also save some cash.

Might be a stupid question (esp since I was knew the answer years ago) but SM3 as a block... what is the "S" mean?

Is it the standing area of M3 in this example?

Read the ticketing threads in the competing clubs forums and I’ll think you’ll get the picture there’s no logic or reason to the absolute cockup of ticketing allocations. I can’t even go into it again right now otherwise I’ll get white flames of fury rising from my head again
