What the hell is going on done at bomberland for this to happen?

He's an incredibly fit man. I know it doesn't sound good to have a coach run 2nd.

But two things, it's a 3km run.
And he used to run top 3 at Brisbane as well.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Where did Rioli finish ?

Didn't do it. Recovering from knee surgery. But he's looking good, dropped a few kg's.

Correct. A very mentally focused/determined and physically fit man. Could often be seen running the streets around the Gabba with other coaches on their daily constitutional here in Brissy.

Personally I reckon it's a backup ploy for when there is no player available on the bench and another goes down injured. If you have proper accreditiation (like all asst coaches get) you are allowed on the field. So...............they keep em fit......Just in case! I can see it now, an asst coach kitting up on the sidelines and running out on the field to replace the 5th injured player LOl wouldnt' that be a sight!

If you were going to do it, GO'D would be pretty high up on the list of assistants you'd want out there.
Inspirational bloke.

does that rule actually exist??

there's been many occasions over the year where teams have been decimated by injury in a game, only to have 1 or 2 of them play through the injury.

I remember one game for us was i think the fremantle game (injury wasnt the only way in which we were decimated). I can't remember who exactly got injured (blanked out that game), but i do remember travis cloke limping on with a knock to the hip after half time because there wasnt really anyone else to take his place. Granted it wasnt exactly a life threatening injury...

I think cameron cloke went down with his shoulder that game, and rusling also?

Nah it's just the conlusion/interpretation left over when you look at the other rules.

The AFL issue accreditation to those allowed on the field. A form is filled in and initialled by the team manager 20 minutes prior to the game - you know the list lodgement one, but it turns out it has not only the players names on it but the other 'officials' as well.

So the AFL being the AFL haven't in their infinate wisdom said it can't happen, neither have they said it can. But based on their paperwork policy it could. Know what I mean?

It's just like there is no actual written rule, but the AFL clarified things when Bradshaw ( I think it was) was injured in the onfield warm up after they ran through the banner at Subi a couple of years back. It turns out that even though you've lodged your final 22 list by that stage, the game hasn't commenced so he could have been substituted for an emergency player before the game started (well as long as it was decided then, even if the new player wasn't out on the field or bench by the first bounce).

If that was the case i'm sure kevin sheedy or a mick malthouse wouldve pulled the boots on by now...

especially when they were lobbying to have the bench numbers increased.. wouldve been a great way of arguing their point..

Whether it was only 3kms or not you would think that professional athletes would have the assistant coach well and truly covered in a time trial.

O'D is just an incredibly fit man. He's right up there in the beep test as well.
As I said, he used to finish in the first few at Brisbane as well.

The bloke is just a freak. It says more about Gary than it does about the fitness of the playing group.

What also has to be remembered is Gary is running without the restriction of injury, post season surgery or coming of a six week break.

Also only half the squad ran the time trail yesterday.

Does anyone know the times the first couple of players and O'Donnell finished in?

From the Herald Sun
Young Hawthorn discard Steven Greene underlined his speed and endurance by winning the time-trial in 10min 47sec, with assistant coach Gary O'Donnell a surprise second.

looks like hes smuggling pillows up his..????...... again
Sausage Rioli

He met up with Whitnal and Betts and they are organising an "all you can eat" Hamburger contest :thumbsu:

Although 3km isn't that long a run. Long distance runners generally peak at about 29+ So its not that surprising the G'OD is better then 20 year olds. Plus, as others have mentioned, a fair few are coming off reasonable breaks. I'm sure G'OD as a professional coach (assistant) would have plenty of time to keep himself fit as well.

Im waiting for the annual article in the paper about how he is as fit as ever and ready to pay back sheedy's faith in him.
I remember that issue in Essendon's magazine like it was yesterday!

The front cover read "Fit and fired" or something similar!
