call me biased but he is the biggest victim of his own standards.

Pendlebury missed 15 and 16 due to the exact same thing - his own high standards.

Dusty had some absolute crackers, yes. But also had some quiet days - v Collingwood, v Melbourne, v GWS, v WBD, v GCS.. Plus 2 missed games, thats a fair chunk to go missing. To me Pendleburys 22 games of consistent great footy, with quite a few BOGS or 2BOGS thrown in there is more worthy.

It really comes down to -
Consistent excellence across the whole season V much less consistent, But higher highs.

Or a toss of the coin really... The selectors have a hard job, 18 have to miss out, it’d be impossible not to upset some

It is a very hard job, I would have had Dusty in over Yeo personally. Yeo doesn't win enough of the ball to be considered an elite midfielder.

Just feels like Martin's influence is a bit more dramatic on a game.
If he's not getting much of the footy he can go forward and instantly kick a goal or two.
He also sets them up more so than just about any other midfielder. His overall score involvements would definitely be top 10 if not top 5 in the comp.

Shuey had a far better year than both anyway.

Nope have to disagree there. Yeo is very deserving. Its not all about posessions when measuring his effectiveness. He isn’t instructed to just run around kicking snags and racking up the ball like Martin, he gets jobs. Very often gets a job on an opposition mid, and does it so well. 2nd in the league in tackles (averages 7 a game), top 10 in clearances.

While only averaging 24, he uses it well, is hard as a cats head, tackles harder then anyone, can get it on the outside & outside, and plays tight on the oppo’s best mid. Such a well rounded player.

Scott actually has had more score involvements, he’s 10th in the comp, Martins 15th.

If you’re talking about influence on the game as an argument against Pendlebury, then i feel like you’ve got it all wrong.

No one in the comp has more influence with 27 touches then Scott Pendlebury. Every single touch counts, doesn’t waste as many as Martin. He also has hit the scoreboard consistently as of recent

Dusty has 142 score involvements & Pendles has 144.... Dusty missed 2 games. DUSTY has more goal assists and kicked more goals Pendles averages 1 more disposal.

Look you can mount a case either way. All i’ll say is you can’t measure Pendleburys influence through stats.

Pendlebury had more tackles, more rebound 50s, more tackles i50, more intercepts than Martin. Whatever Martin did better offensively, Pendlebury did better defensively. Also turned the ball over less.

I think a patch of solid but not spectacular form earlier in the season cost Martin. His second half had him right up there as one of the best, but I can only assume the less impressive earlier form cost him.

I didn't follow Pendles season closely enough, but personally I have seen him play better in earlier years.

You could have probably popped them in, but I don't think it's the worst call ever leaving them out to be fair.

Pendles has had an outstanding season, right up there with his best IMO, Dusty was unlucky though.
