I found the membership figures, Reginald Perrin
In 2008, the only indication we had that there may be a rebranding was a survey put out to members. You really think that was responsible for the drop in numbers in 2009? Of course not, that's absurd. We were rebuilding and had little prospect of team success.
The new uniform came about at the end of the 2010 season. Amazingly the alienated supporter base increased by almost 3000 in 2011. So much for your facts. Of course it's more likely that it had something to do with winning a final in 2010.

Year Membership Numbers
2014 48,000*
2013 43,880
2012 42,918
2011 42,762
2010 39,854
2009 39,206
2008 43,366
2007 43,343
2006 35,666
2005 34,178
2004 32,780
2003 25,368
2002 23,775
2001 23,898
2000 24,925
1999 24,896
1998 22,186
1997 19,949
1996 19,622
1995 18,456
You "found" them? How clever of you to be able to use Google.
Reg, stop obsessing.

Be happy - you'll live longer.

The highlighted section is impossible to prove either way. The famous protest walk from the train station never amounted to shit.
I'm always happy when I'm having fun, and this subject has provided me with years of it.
From my experience it alienated only a very small but vocal minority, you're attributing too much of our membership drop (which at 1057 isn't exactly the mass exodus you're intimating it was) to re-branding rather than the fact that 2011 was a disaster on field. The money we lost has been recouped tenfold from merchandise sales anyway.
Facts, schmacts.
I know you don't like the Steve's but you can't be serious.
I'm as serious as a hangover, which is highly coincidental.

That must be the problem!
Didn't work out?
The move to Tassie was fine. It's a great place to live, if slightly painful in relation to job opportunities, but I'll end up back there. I was made on offer in WA that I couldn't refuse.

Long walk off a short plank?

Do you think the membership drop may have been things like the GFC reducing disposable income?

Long walk off a short plank?
How is that an offer too good to refuse?

No. Alien abductions on a mass scale would be a more realistic option than the GFC. Neither are the correct answer.

Col the emperor moving on?
We can only hope, but no, I'm much further North than that. I've never been keen on living in Perth anyway.

You have been the torchbearer for critical review of the Steve's Syndicate which is good and certainly required for this board unless you want Dockerland sheep mentality and censorship. It has been enjoyable watching you punch on over the years but surely you have to be pleased with the current state of the club off-field. Of course we haven't got that maiden premiership yet but even so - you can be happy with the general direction of things even considering your personal disgust of past incidents.

Things are apparently operating well, but I'll let you know for sure when they open the members' social club at Fremantle Cockburn.

I still sometimes wonder why the quality of membership trinkets is inversely proportional to the cost of the annual membership increases, but then I remember that I'm only a member and therefore of little consequence to the club.

If you want to be part of a club with a social facility join Peel .Theirs is a ripper. I don't think any of the 18 AFL clubs have a social club. 50000 members is just a little hard to flush up the barbie and pass out the sausage sizzles. Grasping at straws at the lack of a social club Reg.
Freo at least have open training. Something those up the road only dream of.

Why is that grasping at straws, salim? It's in our constitution.

Actually... quite a few AFL clubs have social clubs. I know Collingwood definitely do, but you have to pay extra for it. And be a Collingwood member. Gross.

Have you ever been to Cockburn?

Have you ever been to Cockburn?
Unfortunately, yes.

Let's be honest, the Steve's have done one good thing and that is getting Ross Lyon. Apart from that, they are doing a serviceable job, but nothing more.

Any increased profit the club is making is most likely due to the excessive increase in membership fees each year. Compare the CPI to how much our memberships go up each year.

Cockburn its fantastic isn't it .Will be the the best facilities in the league. The change of colours also a marketing boom.. The profit is from the increase in membership numbers ,around the 50000 mark isn't it. The increase in membership would be the top 4 finishes, the home finals and a GF appearance. All happened during the Steves watch. Dis honest to say the Steves only achievement has been the signing of Lyon.

Membership costs have gone up massively. That's a huge increase in revenue that we have funded. The jumper change is nothing special, the old away strip/ purple haze strip was just as good. They totally fkd up the song change process. They are taking the club away from it's home to a place that can best be described as a backwater. I honestly don't get the fap that some people have for these Claremont boys.

People like to benchmark against our old admin, but we should be comparing ourselves against the best in the league, which we are far from. Unless we somehow win the flag this year, I think it's time to move them on and get some new blood running the club.

Quite dishonest to say the Steves got Lyon. Lyon got Fremantle, the Steves just happened to be in charge. Crediting the Steves with our on-field success is also dishonest, that's down to a better playing list. As for memberships, well I already pointed out that we're about 10K below where we should be, but let's just ignore that. I can keep this up for as long as you like.
If Freo have ever had a social club I must have missed it. Where or when was this mythical club. Cockburn will have a coffee shop. Will that do.:)
We've never had one, that's the point. The constitution has never been fulfilled.
