How do you pronounce it?

Most civilized people can realise that it is pronounced dERRby but some of you less intellectual folk over east seem to get tongue-tied and pronounce it dARRby.

I wonder how long ago it was that you Victorians forgot how to speak???;)

It's Derrby (Deerrby) plain and simple

Those of you who are thinking it's Darby I have a questiopn for you

Do you go around pronouncing Paris as Paree? becuase that's the way it's supposed to be pronounced. And if you answered yes, then you are a poncy tossbag and no one cares what you think becuase your a flaming homo tosser poser.

It's Deerby, simple as that.

The answer is Derby, the same as the town up north. This is pronounced 'Derr-bee'.

Darby is a horse race.

The people on the other side of the Nullaboor also have a problem with the pronunciation of Albany. Albany is correctly pronounced 'Al-ban-ee'. If it was 'All-ban-ee' it would be spelt with two l's.

Seems like Western Australians speak American English while us Easterners speak good ol' plain English.

If you were robbed, would you say you were burglarized or burgled?

P.S - I accidentally voted 'DUR-bee'. It's obviously 'DAR-bee'.

I have a question for you - do you use the word 'youse' a lot and eat baked beans in a can for dinner?

I think you will find that Paris is in the English dictionary with its correct English pronounciation being 'Par-is' not 'Par-ee' just as you will find derby in the English dictionary with its correct English pronounciation being 'dahr-bee'

It's all relative.

Words that are spelt the same can have two different pronunciations depending upon the meaning. Or vice versa.
e.g. read

If I'm referring to a horse race I say DAR-bee.

If I'm talking about the town in the NW or the football clash I say DER-bee.

If you live in Northern America, then yes, it is pronounced derby.

You're dyslexic, how would you know how it's pronounced?

look below

The fact that it's pronounced 'dar-bee' in England (the place the word originated) ends the debate.
look above, which one is it ladies? you can't havie it both ways. or maybe YOU can.

You're dyslexic, how would you know how it's pronounced?

wow, how clever you are, I guess it's now time for my reply about you being a kangaroo and that your not supposed to even read let alone talk huh?

This is just a silly tomayto/tomarto thread.

In W.A (where the game is actually played, announced on the day AT THE GROUND) it is the deerby. For anyone else calling it anything different, then you are wrong. It's our game, we call it whatever we want, if you go ahead and try to change ut then you ARE WRONG. Why you are even tryingt to bring up different pronunciations (from other countries, describing OTHER sportin g events or towns is ludicrous) Our town, our game, our pronunciation. It's really that simple
