Darren Glass vs Shannon Hurn

Both full backs/defenders who were/are captains, just wonder how you would compare the two as players, so far? Glass is a bit taller, but Hurn can play pretty tall, and both are booming kicks (especially Hurn) who could rebound it out of defensive 50 with ease, although one could argue Glass had a significantly more dynamic midfield to work with, not to take away anything from the current team. Hurn has also shown he can be a forward threat, moreso than Glass. It's hard to compare which was/is more 'important' to the Eagle's team/defence, but they both certain are/were keystone players.

Glass was very careful about kicking within his limitations. He was a shit kick of the footy.

Hurn's a good player, but Glass was an absolute champion of our club. 4x all australian, 3x bnf, long serving captain through our darkest days.

Glass took a while to come on and I expected nothing from him, early on he really frustrated me with his decisions and kicking but grew into a good player but not great. Hurn showed early on his skill set and didn't disappoint, his place kicking is elite but he will also go down as a good but not great player for us.

A great player for us brings home a premiership as a captain....think Judd or Worsfold, don't get me wrong Woosh is no Hurn as a player but as a captain he will always be thought of as a great.

Glass better defensively, more versatile one on one, commands the backline, a better leader (from afar, can't judge what the group think obviously). Hurn better with the ball in hand. No contest for me, love Bunga but Darren Glass is one of the best defenders of the last 20 years. We've been blessed with some absolute stud KPDs over the last 30 years.

Edit: Plus, Glass did this which will never be topped

Bunga's been a good, solid player for us.

Glass was arguably the best FB of his time along with Scarlett.

Hurn isn't fit to clean Glass's boots when it comes to on field leadership.

Both cornerstone parts of there defence but completely different players. As for Glass and having a long kick the less said the better, always felt more comfortable with a 15 - 20 metre Glass pass than a 50 m turnover whereas Hurn is a much better kick and a much greater offensive weapon.

As for leadership Glass has Hurn covered well and truly right now but arguably had more stars at his disposal.

This makes me picture darren striding on the field and bunga running up with a brush and some kiwi black and puppy dog eyes - glassy shakes his head no and points away - bunga goes off downcast - not good enough. Body language=crushed.

Glassy polishes his boots on his calfs with his socks and ponders - when will he learn.
