Don't know an awful lot about this kid, but having just watched the game again, although he wasn't prolific it could
be argued that his few moments of brilliance won us the game in the end. And got us into a GRAND FINAL. Do we play this kid next week? hide him away? and do we think seriously about drafting or rookie-listing him? :thumbsu:

Eardley, Sully, Holden.

Damn good chance we can get them all and if not they will be listed somewhere next year...

Probably not senior lists but you never know... could see Doggies, North, Dons taking a flyer on a senior list spot for development...

God i hope not..

Darcy is 20 yrs old, 182cm & 82kg.

Played for the St Bedes Tigers
In 2011 he played 22 games kicking 22 goals.
Played in the under 19's state team and he obviously showed enough for Geelong to give him a go.

I was disappointed we missed out on Geelong's own Scott Thompson in 2007; If Holden is as good as he showed yesterday (those two goals were sublime) let's get him on board as a rookie.

Eardley is already a rookie with us. We drafted him last year, East Freo boy who played for WA in the U18s.

Eardley was super for us yesterday. I assume he'll be on our rookie list again next year?
Should be. He's been excellent all year and has probably been a bit stiff not to get a seniors game.

My bad - didnt explain that well...

I knew Eardley was rookied with us - our 1st rookie pick if i recall - but was referring to keeping him for next year and adding Sully and Holden.

Thanks

Only seen two TV finals but here goes anyway:

Holden did three or four good things (two great opportunist goals) but too little involvement otherwise. Probably was a little overawed (looked like it early).

Sully is well ahead of Holden - still needs a good one next week.

Eardley was good. Has tagger written all over him. Just needs an engine.

Stringer looked really good. He was the only one of the rookies who looks like he has time in close and the vision to make the most of it. Just needs to find the gym (early injuries may have reduced his ability to get this work done). He is the upgrade of the S's IMO.

Ah ok. I think Sully's a chance to go elsewhere because he was already on the radar before this year - apparently was being chased hard across the VFL. But Holden I wouldn't be as worried about. He's only played 3-4 games for us this year and isn't on the invite list for the state combine.

I'm not sure that Holden is the sort of player that would necessarily make it at AFL level. Has he got a capacity to play midfield? You can probably get away playing a permanent small forward role in the VFL, but other than Milne, who else really exclusively plays just that role in the AFL these days with success? Even Nahas has stints in the middle. He would want to be able to also win his own footy and be more versatile to be assured of getting looked at by prospective AFL recruiting people.

Perhaps one of the stories of Sunday’s five-point win over Werribee in the preliminary final was the performance of Geelong’s 23rd man – Darcy Holden – who kicked two creative goals at crucial stages.

Knights said that its other player TAC Cup player who had played finals – Matt Sully – was ineligible to play in the grand final as he had already played two finals.

“The way Darcy played today, he handles himself well,” Knights said.

“He got a couple of opportunist goals and I though the tackled really well so he’s probably played himself into a grand final I guess which is probably his first game today in I reckon about 14 weeks.”

“I’m really proud of his efforts today,” he said.

Outside of father sons like Viney I don't think any of the top draft prospects play as the 23rd man do they? Bit disappointing that they have a cap of 2 finals for someone like Sully pushing his case to be drafted. Solves the selection dilemma.

Eddie Betts...........can cause you a few problems!

Ive heard his field kicking is a disaster so maybe not. Simon Hogan will surely be the last player this club recruits that doesnt have the necessary skills to play AFL . Hogan,Playfair,Mccarthy,Tenace, Clarke, Cameron Roberts (just threw that one in for nostalgia) etc...... We have gone down that road and whilst they all had a go, their skills were not up to it. As Wells gets older he gets smarter and these types of players simply cannot be considered. These kind of players cost you turn overs, cost you goals and cost you games. All that being said I must admit his 2 goals were great but hardly saw him do much else.

Tom Floyd , there's blast from the past. What was Tom's kicking like , too long ago fro me to remember. Interesting observation though. I think after Tenace he has been very aware of the issues you raise. As we have mostly said , what he did was make us want to see more of him.
Gees I was only 10 when Tommy was going round but he was an ok kick from memory. I think he may have kicked 20 plus goals in 1980 as well. Whilst Im on skills you could almost have put Enright and Joel Corey in that group in their first few years. They were scratchy at best but through pure hard work have turned that weakness around to become the finest players our club has seen. In saying that, its a pretty rare beast that can turn such issues around like these two legends have.
