Hi guys,

I'm sure my club is similar to many, $$ is a big issue. We are in need of some decent balls for training, spending $25 bucks on a ball is not viable for us. Does anyone know of some cheap balls that are suitable for net sessions? So not bat breakers. Doesn't matter what brand and where from.

Red 156gm leather off course.

Thanks for the idea, will look into it :thumbsu:

Icon Sports have some cheaper models that don't break bats, Keith Dudgeon Sports in Queensland is also very good.

Need to have separate kits at training.

The net training balls need to be good quality - the ones you use in matches. Clubs always try to skimp on these and use cheaper ones but they are cheaper for a reason. They age quickly, go out of shape and are basically shit. Whatever you 'save' on costs you lose because you use three times as many and the standard of training is rubbish.

The net training balls need to be kept separate from the balls you use for fielding training, keeping drills, throw downs, pre-match warm ups.

Use bowling machine balls for throw downs. These last forever - second hardest substance in the world to diamond. Use cheap cricket balls for fielding activities, pre-match warm ups etc.

In your nets, you need to remove the hazards that age the balls quickly. Eg any exposed concrete, cyclone fencing. What's needed is soft netting, astro turf, even padding around/behind the batter. Anything to reduce the impact.

If you have three nets, four bowlers per net then you need to have 12 good net training balls. Keep track of them, count them after each session, don't mix them up with the other balls. As these age, filter the new ones in or the used match balls, and filter the oldies back into the fielding kit.
