Collingwood's new logo for 2017

COLLINGWOOD has revealed a new emblem for 2017.

The club will celebrate its 125th anniversary next season and has brought together its iconic former and updated symbol, which will appear on match-day jumpers and off-field apparel.

President Eddie McGuire detailed the design.

Nah it looks good. I like magpies when the bastards aren't swooping, but the ones around here just seem to sing from on telephone polls, which is nice. I wish they would keep it down a bit before 6am though.

Love the throwback to the 70´s in this one. They were the best logo´s ever. When you looked at all the club´s together on
a wall they all looked balanced even though some looked a bit cartoonish like the Dee´s for example. They all looked kinda cool.
Now it´s hard for an outsider to recognize if we are all playing in the same competition with the directions some clubs take.

With 14 clubs out of the comp, its this or Andrew Walkers hat.

And we've already had one of those today.

Trade week comes soon with fans getting worked up and raging over hypothetical trade deals they negotiate but have no actual say in, and plenty of homoerotic references to clubs being 'reamed' or 'bent over'.

The circus doesnt go away, it just changes tents.

Same reason everyone does. They can sell more merch to supporters who already have the clock, the beer holders etc.

Though there is an advantage in having magpies as your emblem. They are a cool looking bird, sort of handsome fierce rather than cute, and nice and simple in colouring. I like lorikeets and eastern rosellas too - but what looks good on a tomato sauce bottle probably doesn't translate well to footy.

I like the logo. If I was a pies supporter I'm sure I would cough up some hard earned for a mug or key ring or something.

I was curious about the Magpie on the left, as the article mentions that it is an original design from the past. I enjoy my AFL history and wanted to see when this logo was used but couldn't find anything about it. The Magpie on the right is clearly the one from the current emblem (and back to the 70s).

Anyone know what that was used as a logo or was it just a rejected design for the current emblem?

Edit: Had a little dig around the internet...

Turns out it was used at least once on a 1974 Xmas card...
