Ladies and Gentleman 2018 will finally be the year luck changes for Nathan Buckley. The wake up call in 2017 he received by almost losing his job will be enough for him to change his ways and open up to other people and other ideas.

A good injury list to start will go a long way and basically a new coaching panel that isn't a boys club is going to benefit Nathan a lot.

I have had my doubt about Bucks but there is nothing i would want to see more than Bucks holding up the cup one day. The amount he loves this football club he deserves it. He bleeds black and white and the drive he has for success will see him get the rewards in 2018.

He has got the playing group he wants and more importantly they are playing for him as the back end of 2017 proves.

Big call: Bucks to get the pies in the top 8 and gets nominated for coach of the year

As evidenced by Lachy and JT Buckley is still cleaning up ole Mick (give me wins I'll look the other way) Malthouse's mess and still being scapegoated for it... if you want a professional that ticks off everything Buck's is the man

How is it a big call for him to get us in the 8.. what it's gonna be a Leviathan effort is it? So you're saying.. that we are shit and we should go 5 yrs without a finals appearance?

The very least I wanna see is a finals appearance.. and even if we do make top 8.. doesn't necessarily make the bloke a good coach.

Its a big call because you go through 90% of ladder predictors and i can almost guarentee around 90% of the so called "experts" will have us finishing in that 9th - 12th range.

Mate.. so why will most call for Buck's head if we don't make it.. f 5 yrs mate!

A list.. regardless of how so called good it is.. matters for shit.. if the coach can't galvanize the group on the pitch.. who gives a shit what experts say.

If Buckley can get the most out of our players.. and get us playing as a cohesive unit.. we are a top 4 proposition.

Mate if hardwick can win em a premiership with the shit they had running around.. and Beveridge win the dogs one with the weirdest ass shit of a structure.. then why can't we do it.

That's the Dogs and Richmond winning premierships! So making the 8 for us is the very least I expect from Buckley.. the very least! Even if we do make it.. I still will not view it as successful if I'm not happy with the way we played.

Comments like these are exactly why it's a big call mate. Not many have faith that Nathan will get us in the 8 and beyond.
Well it's hard for Nathan to do anything with the decisions going on around him... I see we won't be using the pick 70 that we got back for Murray, thank god we only gave up our 2nd rounder for a rookie that's never played

Hearing Bucks say he wants Moore Back just ReInforces to me he next to no Idea and is just a Bad Coach like most Ex-Champion Players are
Or it could be the best move he’s made in his coaching career. Plenty of flack was given to Bux when he wasn’t trying different things and now he’s getting burnt saying he’s going to trial him down back.

Moore is inconsistent, maybe down there he becomes a more consistent player. We won’t know unless things are tired. It might also happen for half a season and it doesn’t work and he goes forward. We probably aren’t going to make the 8, it might be time to trial things like this imo.

So we just play a Midget Forward Line Then and Forget Recruiting ANY Tall Players?

Bucks had a modest mullet when I first fell in love with him. Because of him, I almost came to associate that hair 'style' with excellence. I'd like to see him give it another go this season.

Cox.

Not that I'm a fan of Cox being a permanent forward.

Moore going down back won't be permanent. Dave, plenty of people pushed it last year when he Moore was down on form. He also did well there in the last game of the year when he went back. This will likely make him a better forward in the long term.

"The shared training session was driven by Bucks. Nathan's a very open minded guy; it's one of the traits I love about him. The session was very specific for skills + individual preparation, + it was great to share it as two teams," - Brodie Grundy

I agree here, I hate that we accept just making finals the benchmark

We are keeping our powder dry for Lynch 2019.

Edit: A TOP 3 draft draft pick for 2018 would set us up for a nice window...2019-2022
(Assuming we do not have to trade for Lynch...)

Positive Pies won't copy Tiger blueprint

NATHAN Buckley has declared Collingwood won't copy reigning premier Richmond's game plan in 2018, preferring instead to maximise its own talent in a bid to return to the finals.

The overarching theme of the Magpies' members forum on Tuesday night was moving forward and fixing the existing shortcomings following the intensive internal review staged at the end of last season.

Buckley, who is contracted until the end of 2019, said the Pies' success or failure next season would rest completely on their own performance and attitude.

"If anyone is trying to tell you that we're copying Richmond or we're trying to copy Western Bulldogs, that won't be happening," Buckley said.

"We have great strengths as an organisation, in our playing group, our coaching group and in our staff and we plan on maximising that and tell our own story in the process.

"Our story will be ours and our future will be ours, not anyone else's."

Making finals will be the 3rd time under Mr Buckley.

All for it.

September 13 2016

Friday night's AFL semi-finalists are the combined blueprint for bullish Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley.

Speaking at a club members' forum on Monday night, Buckley told the Collingwood faithful their team is making progress despite missing the finals for the third straight year.

"If we're looking at a side we think we play closest to, it's the (Western Bulldogs)," Buckley said.

"We think we have elements of Hawthorn in our back-half use (of the ball), but our defensive and contested focus is probably more like the Western Bulldogs than anyone else.“

So why arent we trying to be the Dogs and Hawks still? What happened to us using them as a template 15 months ago?

As for Bucks claim we use elements the Hawks style in the back half... Haha seriously, 15 months on it still makes me laugh. There is no comparison between our ball use out of defence and the way HFC make decisions and execute.

And as for not copying the Tigers, I guess he’s right because the Tiger actually kick the ball. Their kick to handpass ratio was higher than the 2010 pies.

K2H Ratio

2017 - RFC - 1.36
2011 - CFC - 1.49
2010 - CFC - 1.33

What’s that I hear you MM haters say “the 2010 game plan was found out? Kick first footy won’t win flags no more? MM kick first and boundary mentality is too old school”.... haha how wrong you were and will always be. 7 years later it’s still winning flags. And would have had us in finals each of every of the last 4 years even with injuries.

Yet I digress, yes Nathan you’re right, there’s no way in hell we can replicate the Tigers style with the hand pass happy gameplan we have.

CFC K2H Ratio
2017 - 1.23
2016 - 1.16
2015 - 1.25
2014 - 1.35
2013 - 1.33
2012 - 1.46

It’s almost like there is a direct correlation between our change of game style under Bucks and poor results... But hey it’s easier to just blame injuries...

Or it could be the best move he’s made in his coaching career. Plenty of flack was given to Bux when he wasn’t trying different things and now he’s getting burnt saying he’s going to trial him down back.

It may help moore with his forward craft and running patterns to play on the best forward for a season or even half a season.
