This has troubled me for a while people. Whenever conversation about quality confectionary bars starts up (all the time in my circle of friends) talk always seems to be limited to the Mars Bars, the Snickers, the Violet Crumbles, the Bountys etc etc. The main streams. The Nathan Buckleys and Michael Voss's if you like.

But the often forgotten gem IMO is the Chokito Bar. Doesnt get nearly as many of the plaudits or recognition as the aforementioned. But it truly is out there on its own. No other bar has the same unique mix of choc coated chewy caramel fudge and crunchy rice crisps. You really are getting the best of both worlds: the chewie delicious softness of a Mars Bar and the crunchy delight of a crunch bar. What a concept!!

And i was thrilled yesterday as i was paying for my petrol to discover that some genuis had had the foresite and inspiration to release a king size Chokito! Oh happy days people!

I say we all go out and get one this week out of respect for the often forgotten ugly duckling of the confectionary world. You'll soon realise you truly have a swan!

The Chokito is ordinary IMO, Carlos. I know us food experts differ a fair bit on the subject of chocolate bars, so I respect your authorative opinion.

For mine, it has to be the humble Fry's Turkish Delight. Smaller, more robust, but does all the 1%ers. Ever reliable, but often written off. Has the rich chocolate outside the jelly-like delight inside. Bliss!

As for the Rising Star award, it has to go to the white chocolate four fingered Kit-Kat. Been very impressive in it's first year, and has performed week in, week out in my tummy.

Carlos my man, you've done it again!

The Hitman

I'm a big fan of the Chokito. However the greatest ever chocolate bar for me was Fry's Cream Bar. I cried when they stopped making them. Luckily I can still get them on import from England at the Lolly Shop on Lygon St.

The Chokito was very much my childhood favorite. It truely is a sensational chocolate bar. As much a part of my childhood as Twistie Sandwich's

In honour of this great thread, and on Carlos's advise, i will purchase a Chokito and consume it, and today will forever be known as Chokito Day.

I will do this as soon as i finish my Caramel Fudge Sludge

My favourite, and a much underrated chocolate bar, is the White Knight. Not too pepperminty, yet full of minty and chocolatey goodness. Sweeeeet!!

The Fry's Turkish is always a winner and for the teeth pickers out there, you can't go past the Golden Roughs or the ultimate tooth picker, the Peppermint Crisp!

Nope, you're all wrong.

The supreme chocolate bar was the original curly wurly. I cringe everytime I see the inferior and pathetic attempt they try to pass off on the supermarket shelves these days. Do they think we're stupid?? Do they think if they call it by the same name it's the same bar of chewy, stretchy caramel encased in mouth watering milk chocolate?

Ah, the memory of sinking my teeth into one of those bars as a kid and stretching it until my arm couldn't reach any further...... those were the days. :(

Chomp.

Sure, its the bar you only draft in the 5th round or later, but it fills a gap and is pretty darn good for its price.

Hmmm. All interesting assertions and very worthy of consideration.

I have my question marks over Hitman's Turkish Delight, only because of its lack of that moreish value that seprates your after work chocolate bar to, say, your after sex choclate bar IMO. I like the TD, no doubt, but its more a Winston Abraham type that is great in small doses and every now and then as a special treat (after sex) but doesnt have alot of staying power.

But FIGJAM is really talking the talk. The White Knight is almost worthy of its own thread altogether IMO. Not in as regular circulation as it once was, but still worthy of the search. SafeWay usually have them in great supply. I love it when you get a chewy one where you've basically got to go through an oral tug of war before claiming each mouthfull, but even the slightly more aged ones that snap right off are more than worthy.

Porthos is also certainly on the money with his Chomp call. Havent had the pleasure in ages, but last time i did they were a bargain at 60 cents! And i remember it was revolutionary stuff when they brought out the peppermint Chomp!

Another that doesnt quit get the plaudits it deserves is the Whip. Call me an alternativist (pretty sure i just made up a word there), call me a go-against-the-grainer, call me Betty, but while the Mars Bar certainly has its good points, the Whip, which is the Port Adelaide to the Mars Bar's Adelaide Crows IMO, has a charm the common Mars Bar cannot match.

And dont get me started on the Milo Bar.....

I prefer the Whip to the Mars bar myself.

And we've got new snack machines at work - I'm delighted to say that Milo Bars are there. Its amazing.

Amazing indeed. That is almost worthy of consideration of moving states/employment.

Peppermint Crisp & Milky Way.

Enough said.
Can i say more on this though? :D

The peppermint crisp is one for the connoisseur IMO and not one that you can have for breakfast like a Mars Bar for example or to settle your average craving. But they are very nice in their own special way.

And i rate the Milky Bar, but i need 17 of them to really get any sense that i've had a real chocolate bar. And as an interesting footnote to the Milky Way topic, have you ever had one of those 'light' mars bars? Very very similar to a milky way.

No, you're all wrong and you're all stupid. :D

There are a couple of German chocky bars, Hanuta and Duplo, which leave all other chocolates for dead.

If you know anyone who lives in Germany, or has been there lately, and has tried them, they will no doubt vouch for the utter supremacy of these chocolates.

IF IT'S NOT GERMAN, IT"S CRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!

That is a travesty! It goes against everything that Chomps stand for!

I can get em for 80c at the convenience store by the tram station, so thats all good.

The Pollywaffle! How could we forget!

I've just started a new job, and there is an absolute smorgasbord of chocolates available in the reception area. Unfortunately it is all wasted on me. I am not a huge fan of chocolate. But they tell me chocolate is a substitute for sex! :D

Speaking of not of this world.......

I really don't think you can go wrong with a Snickers.

No-one has mentioned it, but it is the Glen Archer of chocolate bars.
Not as fancy as your Mars bar, but just as good, and a no bull**** attitude. And just like Glen Archer, it can thank it's popularity on being slightly nutty.
