Carlton vs Western Bulldogs, 7:40pm tonight at Marvel Stadium

It's shaping up as an important game for both sides.
It's obviously a must-win for Carlton if they don't want to start the season zip-three. How many teams make the finals from a start like that? But with two tough games ahead against Geelong (A) and Brisbane (GR) the Bulldogs desperately need to bank another win while their stars are sidelined and still many weeks from returning - Bont, Treloar, Weightman.

There's selection intrigue as well. McKay is out for personal reasons and now there's a late rumour that Curnow could be an out. Meanwhile the Dogs have omitted/managed two smalls (Arty Jones and Duryea) and brought in two talls (L Jones and O'Donnell). Pretty clearly we can't play all those talls in defence so which one will go forward? The popular vote is O'Donnell based on mid-week comments but Bevo could have been foxing.

On paper Carlton looks to have quality on every line. But they haven't been playing like that so far this year. Is this the week it comes together for them?

The Bulldogs look too young and inexperienced but they didn't play like that against Collingwood last week.

These sides have played each other 153 times with the Dogs only winning 59 of them, Carlton 90 and there have been 4 draws. But the Bulldogs have been evening up the ledger lately. They've won 12 of their last 17 meetings.

All eyes will be on the big guns as usual, Curnow (if he plays), Cripps and the one everybody is talking about, Sam Darcy. But maybe somebody else will cut loose if the Blues focus too much on locking down on Darcy. Naughton? Maybe even O'Donnell or Khamis. Or is this the week English returns to form?

I'm tipping a close one. These Friday night games usually are.

Dogs by a point.

The Blues have been a funny one so far. Had Richmond on toast but completely shat the bed. Had the Hawks on toast but couldn’t keep it up. Keep pace or be ahead of them by the second half and I’ll be confident.

I am optimistically hopeful for a win tonight.

I had a Fisherman's Basket(well, half of it) for dinner tonight for luck. We'll, it wasn't lucky for the flake, calamari, mussels, scallop, prawn, and the stuff in the mystery crab stick.

Darcy got a big talk up in the focus on bit on 7 just before.
Sheesh, I hope the umpiring is better this week.
Go Dogs 👍👍
