I put $10 on Riccuito for the bronlow at 15/1. Since he came second, and i think the betting is each way, do i get any money? If so, How much?

Thanks

Each way half the odds...
15/1 i think will pay 7.50 a place....

Someone correct me if im wrong... it might be a third, ie $5

You want get anything unless it is specified as an each way bet. If youre not sure, the odds are you had him straight out.

You definitely don't get half the odds for the place.

Eachway Brownlow betting is on a top 4 finish, so if he did take the each way bet, he'd get about $4 if the guy was 15/1

firstly, does your ticket have any place odds printed on it, as well as the win odds?

if YES, that means you have backed him each way.

if NO, and it just has the win odds on the ticket, you have backed him for a win.

yes, you do have to specify if you are to bet each way.

you say betting was each way, that probably just means that each way betting was available, and you only backed him each way if you specified it and it was printed out on the ticket.

ps- the place odds are 1/3 of win odds i believe.

The place odds come from a different betting pool to the win odds, they aren't influenced by each other at all. Though obviously due to the fact a place bet pays out multiple people from the pool and the win only one, the place payout will always be lower

Sorry guys, but you're all wrong.

Firstly, there is no separate place pool on the Brownlow.

Secondly, the place always pays 1/4 the win bet unless there is less than 8 runners which does not happen with the Brownlow.

If you did back Riccuito each way it will have the place portion on your ticket. If it only has the win bet, then you're out of luck.

Last but not least, don't bet with the TAB on sports. They rape you blind.

I'm a bookies clerk so please take it from me that the above is correct.

ummm no, bookies do things differently because usually they only give win odds and the place odds are a derivitive of that, when betting agencies give both win and place odds they are in fact coming from different betting pools. Check out the TAB site and they will often show you the amount of money in the win and place pools (depending upon the event of course)

But the Brownlow is a fixed odds event and therefore pools do not apply.

You're thinking of racing where a tote system applies.

Fixed odds yes, but that doesn't mean there isn't a pool. The odds do change throughout the duration of the betting period and that is based on the amount of money that will need to be paid out on each player if they should happen to win or place, the only difference is once a bet is placed it's at the odds it was placed at. Same sort of thing just a bit more complicated for the betting agencies computers

There's no seperate odds for the place, though. They only have odds for the winner, and the place odds are 1/4 of that.
ahh huh, well Sportodds and Centrebet did not provide odds that were 1/4 of the win price, and did provide separate odds for both win and place. But then again they might have done it incorrectly, especially since they are only small betting agencies compared to a bookie :p

(oops sorry, just remembered this place is supported by Sportingbet...the best betting site of them all!!!! :D )

Tez,
I think you're getting a bit confused mate.

They do pay 1/4 the place it just looks a bit different to someone not that familiar with how these things work.

For instance someone paying $16 the win, will pay $4.75 the place.

$16 is 15/1 - a quarter of 15/1 is 15/4.
15/4 is $4.75

Another example is someone paying $8 the win, will pay $2.75 the place
$8 is 7/1 which means 7/4 the place - ie $2.75

There are NO, let me stress NO, seperate place pools for fixed odds betting.

I hate to admit it, but I think you might be right, after a bit of maths in the old head I think you're just proven how little I know about market odds. And after all that money I've donated to betting agencies over the past few years too  heh heh

Happy to help.

The powers that be decided to convert bookmakers odds into dollar values a few years ago in the belief it would make it easier for the irregular punter.

However, its my experience that it only complicates matters, especially each way betting.

You would not beleive how often we get asked the same question over the spring carnival.
