More info on Brendon Ah Chee:
Arch began his fourth season at Port Adelaide without a senior game to his name and needing to make an impression just to retain his spot on the list at season’s end. And make an impression he did. Following some strong SANFL form, he was selected to make his AFL debut against North Melbourne in round 3. He started as substitute but had a late impact, setting up the winning goal with one of his trademark long range handballs. Arch played a further 10 games and began to really hit his straps late in the season, collecting 24 disposals, 3 goals and 3 Brownlow votes against GWS and 25 disposals and a goal against Hawthorn. His combination of a strong body, athletic prowess and a lightning handball makes Arch a unique weapon. A place in the best 22 is there for the taking if his development continues on this track.

Drafted in the shadow of gun recruit Chad Wingard, Ah Chee produced a standout display in Port's intra-club practice match.

"He's been a nice surprise for us," football operations manager Peter Rohde said.

"Obviously when we drafted him we thought he could play, but he's come on quicker than we thought."

Ah Chee already has added several kilograms of muscle to the 82kg body he brought to Adelaide and he has quickly earned the respect of his new teammates.

"He's got a massive heart," experienced forward Jay Schulz said after the club's torturous pre-season training camp in New Zealand.

"He hasn't got the biggest motor yet but he kept grinding through no matter how tough things became."

Actually I'll change my whole post.

I thought we drafted him as a younger recruit, I thought he was 17 turning 18 not 19 turning 20?

Ahh well, maybe he won't grow those 3 Goode centimetres :(

According to the PAFC website he recently turned 18......D.O.B 21-12-1993

Not sure if the Port website is wrong but I was of the understanding he was a bottom ager in last years draft.

I'm not sure if that recent photo is deceiving or not, but he could be pushing for a début earlier than expected. Excited to see him hopefully get a run on the weekend.

But I hope they don't try and rush his progress. He could be a special player.

HE was the skinny draft smoky who arrived at Port Adelaide with little fanfare. But five days out from the Power's NAB Cup openers, teenager Brendon Ah Chee has made the club's match committee take notice.

Brendon AhChee (for Port Adelaide reserves v Panthers)
16 disposals, 5 marks, 3 tackles, 5 clearances, 2 inside 50s, 2 goals
Had quite a good game, ended up with 19 possessions, a couple of goals and his stoppage work was very good. We’ve been working on spreading with him. In the last quarter there was some good examples of him spreading - in about the fourth minute of the last quarter he started from the backline, tackles an opponent and follows it up with a goal. That was particularly good to see from him and quite a good game overall.

Ah Chee and Wingard have been out promoting the Power Cup in Port Pirie with Paul Vandenbergh, Wade Thompson (lol) and a few others.

Powerful reasons to support indigenous cup

1774303.jpg

John Pirie Secondary School’s students were treated to a special visit last Wednesday.

A team from the Port Adelaide Football Club made the trip to Port Pirie to talk to Aboriginal students about their culture and identity in a new program backed by the State Government.

The program, called the Aboriginal Power Cup, was developed as a way to involve students in 2008 and is undertaken as a South Australian Aboriginal and Sports Training Academy subject.

Power’s manager of indigenous programs, Paul Vandenbergh, has been visiting schools around the country for the past two years.

Nice to see Wade is still around the place

what could have been

Hopefully the YOUNG fella continues on and ours supporters don't expect too much too early, but his potential is something we need.

I hope that he plays well enough to get at least one AFL game this season - it's a big ask, but it would be great news.

SANFL Reserves Stats:
Games: 15
Disposals: 229
Marks: 63
Goals: 8
Best Players: 4

Notes:
Brendan was picked with the clubs second round pick at the end of 2011. His first season at Port Adelaide showed steady and improving form at SANFL reserves level, but he was unable to push into the Port Adelaide Magpies senior side throughout the season. Brendan will hope to start at senior SANFL level in 2013, pushing for AFL selection throughout the year.

Article on AFL website about Ah Chee. Sounds like he will get through his first full pre-season for a couple of years and is on a 1 year extension to really show something. A lot to like about this kid if he can get it to click, not least of which is his size.

On 5AA right now

I would prefer he was on Adelaide oval lining up the big sticks in power colours

hopefully we don't have to wait much longer to see that
