Re: Brendan Fevola

Day 1 of Trade Week 5/10/09

Voss said his club had not been involved in discussions about Brendan Fevola

The Lions are poised to secure Fevola in exchange for Daniel Bradshaw and Michael Rischitelli.

They are understood to have come to terms with Carlton, pending the agreement of Bradshaw and Rischitelli.

THE completion of Carlton's blockbuster deal to send outcast forward Brendan Fevola to Brisbane relies only on the approval of Lions Daniel Bradshaw and Michael Rischitelli, who will meet the Blues today.

Crucially, Brisbane will pick up all of Fevola's salary in trade week's first huge deal, which began to unfold late on Tuesday night when it is believed a Lions official contacted the Blues and was expected to be finalised today.

The deal, should it go through, is expected to save Carlton money, with Fevola believed to be earning around $575,000 next year and $850,000 in 2011, while the Lions will finish trade week with their first-round draft choice intact.

Leigh's comments 08/10/09

"I see it as a gigantic win for the Lions," Matthews told Melbourne radio station 3AW.

"I'd be very surprised if Fev is not exemplary in all facets of his footy life, for at least the next couple of years," he said.

Matthews doubted Rischitelli would refuse to join the Blues.

"If your club says `We're prepared to let you go' and the new club loves you and says `You're going to be fantastic for us', 99 per cent of players eventually go," he said, noting Rischitelli's Melbourne origins helped.

THE Brisbane Lions' bid for Brendan Fevola is on the brink of collapse.

The proposed deal with Carlton is in danger of being sabotaged by Michael Rischitelli's reluctance to join the Blues.

A Brisbane official said last night: "The deal's off.”

The biggest trade of 2009 faltered when Rischitelli told Carlton that he would not leave Queensland and would remain at the Lions, where he is contracted to play for one more year.

The other half of the Brisbane trade offer, forward Daniel Bradshaw, was amenable to the shift, but without Rischitelli on board, the Lions told Carlton last night that the deal was off.

IT'S OFFICIAL – Brendan Fevola is a Brisbane Lion.

The Fevola trade was completed just after 11am on Friday – the final day of trade week – with the Blues sending the spearhead to Brisbane along with their second-round pick (No.27 overall).

In return, Carlton gains promising youngster and Victorian Lachlan Henderson, along with pick No.12 in next month’s NAB AFL Draft.

Re: Brendan Fevola

What's the general consensus around here? Last I heard there was mostly angst over using Bradshaw as bait for Fevola, but now that they're both at the Lions.. what are your thoughts?

Personally I could see Bradshaw playing KPD like he used to and throwing him up forward if needed. Alternatively, have Bradshaw rooted near the top of the square (he's one of the best 1v1 I've ever seen) and Fevola roaming around the 50m arc (no offense but he's quicker than Bradshaw). Browny to push up and smack a few bodies around in some midfield contested marks?

Re: Brendan Fevola

I can see pretty much the same thing with Browny moving up the ground more playing back in his traditional CHF position similar to when we had Lynchy planted in the goal square.

Braddles can take a great strong grab and get front position on the run though, don't be mistaken. And he rotates okay for a good snap if required as we still don't have enough ground runners to swoop on the aggot when he and Browny miss one.

Re: Brendan Fevola

It's very hard to be looking at this, even though he needed to go it's a sad day. :(

Good luck Fev.

Re: Brendan Fevola

Welcome to the Lions Fev. Looking forward to you and Browny ripping it up next year. If someone told me this would happen during the elimination final only a month ago, i would have sent them packing.

We have lost a great promising player in Hendo, but i wont hold the clubs decision to part ways with Hendo against Fev. AA Forwardline here we come

:D

Ok, that made me laugh.

Re: Brendan Fevola

Soooooooooooo happy that Fev is a Lion and also happy that every team that versus us next year will be sh*&$#@& there pants. But it comes with a huge loss and sad to see Hendo leave. Anyway this puts us in a huge position to win the flag next year having the 1st and 2nd place getters of the coleman medal the year before roaming around together. This also frees Bradshaw up to go back and dominate and really steady our defence! Stoked!!!:):D:thumbsu::p

Re: Brendan Fevola

Congrats guys. You gave up a bit to get him but the man is a freak. Love him and you will too the first time you see him the Lions jumper.

While he gets a very bad rap and deservedly so, he doesn't get any credit for the good he does. There isn't a better player with the fans than Fev. Always willing to give time to sign autographs and have a chat when most of the other boys are straight into the rooms.

If it ain't gonna be us next year, I'd love to see Fev win a premiership. Might just too playing alongside Brown. Will be very interesting indeed.
