Is the Great Western Still a good place for a beer and a punt?

if you like $18 not flash pub schnitzels and the smell of urine, it's a wonderful place*

*based on about two years ago when i'd get dragged there every friday for lunch. it might be wonderful now

Squeezed a Parma in at great western on Friday night before the footy and have to say it was up there with the best I've had. Plump, juicy, hand breaded schnitzel with thick cut ham off the bone and good ratio of sauce and cheese. Thick cut, crispy chips were very nice on the side also and all this for the handsome sum of $12.

Must be a different chef from a few years back when the Parma was as big as the plate it was served on, but as thin and tasteless as a sheet of cardboard.

You should do this for a living

The Junction is the one on the opposite side of puckle st yeah? Shittest pub ever

Yep. Awkward TAB setup and chock ablock with pokies. No character whatsoever.

Don't mind the riversdale in hawthorn for a pot and punt on a Friday arvo, but reckon the bush inn in prahran/hawksburn would be right up there with the best. Great food, nice bar, heaps of screens and just a really nice feel to the joint.
