Attended the game and sat just inside the 50 meters clubhouse end.

So, really could only previously comment when the play was at my end. Needed to watch a replay to get a better idea.

I thought at the game live the players looked a bit rusty but watching the replay it was a reasonably good performance considering all the players we had in rehab preseason.

Conceeding the last 4 goals (memories of Blues R1) was not great, but we did miss a couple late ourselves.

Watched the replay last night with the intention of looking out for Day and McKennas performance.

McKenna was okay with 17 disposals but did not do much with them in my opinion. Had 2 tackles.

One good run off halfback with 2 minutes to go to set us up for a shot on goal that was missed.

Who do we play out of Levi, Bailey and McKenna. I would go McKenna sub

Sam Day, live i thought he did not do much wrong and was not out marked, looked okay in the ruck.

On replay i thought Day had a solid game and positioned himself well.

Was good in the relief ruck mostly against the very tall and big Thiltorpe.

He positioned himself well getting that front position which gives him a good chance to win or nullify the opposing ruck.

Lions won a lot of clearances when Day was rucking.

He did not get out marked when forward that i noticed. The same applied to Morris and Gallop.

All three were good in that area without taking many marks and getting disposals. Just bringing the ball to ground.

I was impressed with Day's positioning. He regularly patrolled the middle of the ground cutting off any thought of the Crows going in the direction. Same with the Crows kicking in after a behind. He placed himself a bit closer to that opposition guy that parks themselves for that bail out small kick to the pocket. The Lions usually let the opposition have that possession. Not sure if it is a slight change of game structure by Fagan or Day just did it.

He is still learning the gameplan and how the Lions midfield like to get the ball forward.
