every album, especially Rubber Soul,White Album,Revolver,Abbey Road

Although their most acclaimed i.e Revolver and Abbey Road are awesome and should be in anyones collection, don't disregard Let It Be, Naked... Not the original but the great recent release of the album which has great songs and is their best rock album in my opinion.

For You blue by George is an unsung peice of acoustic blues, Dig A Pony will sound familiar and I Me Mine hints Harrisons ATMP era. Two Of Us is a nice John/Paul moment. Across The Universe one of Johns best ever songwriting efforts, Don't Let Me Down would work today.

And we haven't even spoken of either of the three #1 singles from this album which many hail as their worst.

For mine it is essential listening and although it was an unpleasent album, the songs are so good and I believe the rockers on here were a forerunner to future music more so than most Beatles albums

A Hard Day's Night, HELP!, Rubber Soul and With The Beatles. All those albums are packed with very good songs! That's the 1963/64/65 era, which is my favourite.

Sgt Pepper's, Revolver, Magical Mystery Tour, White Album, Let It Be....my favorites would have to be Anthologies 2-3.

Too hard to list songs, there's too many, but don't by any means listen to No 1's and think it's a true reflection of the Beatles.

If you want really good music get George Harrison's solo stuff...brilliant.

I love the no.1's album :)

All I'm saying is the No 1's album is full of their poppy/boppy music, whereas the other albums have their more...for want of a better term...obscure works.

Even in the Beatlemania era there are heaps of awesome album tracks. I think those albums like #1's are a good starting point, each album needs to be listened to before one has a full appreciation of the Beatles music and influences etc.

Id suggest you just buy the Beatles 'Blue' compilation, 1967-70. Reasonablly good starting point there.

Otherwise buy The White Album, Revolver or Abbey Road.

:) What ive got:

- Abbey Road
- Help
- Let it Be
- Magical Mystery Tour
- Revolver
- Rubber Soul
- St. Pepper
- White 1
- White 2
- Yellow Submarine

Ive also downloaded most songs off the no.1 album and playing them together. Bar the no.1's is there an outstanding singles you recommend?

:)

I will attest to his music being gold, swifty. If you want all round classic #1 hits you cannot go past Something (for class and elegance), Let It Be (for emotion) and Hey Jude (pure gold).

However a relatively rare b-side called Rain is often cited by Ringo as being his best drumming effort, that song is so good and no many casual fans know it.

More great songs not on beatles one from each writer:

Lennon: Across the Universe, Hapiness Is A Warm Gun, Strawberry Fields, I am The Walrus and I'm A Looser

McCartney: And I Love Her, The Night Before, For No One, Blackbird, Got To Get You Into My Life

Harrison: The Inner Light, Taxman, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Here Comes The Sun and Don't Bother Me (why was he so hard on his first ever written song, I like his youthful innocence on it)

Ringo: well nothing memorable in the band yet Photograph from solo years was equal to many of his band mates beatles songs

Rain is a classic. I remember a few years back I was watching Rage and they had a few Beatles clips on and Rain was one of them. Couldn't beleive it.

Ringo songs that are really good are "It don't come easy" and "Back off Boogaloo", although I haven't listened to all of his music.

The 3 albums I really need, and have been searching for for ages are the 3 Travelling Wilbury's CD's. I've heard a rumor that they are being re-released soon. God I hope they are.

Lioness: I've listened to those albums, but still can't bring myself to buy them simply for the sake of completing my collection.

3 Wilburys albums? They only released two studio albums but there is an expensive import available which has both volumes plus outakes on it. Both albums are classics and many people would be suprised to say they really like them.

I was lucky to get Harrisons dark horse albums his apple catalogue is being worked on by Olivia and Dhani and team.

Ringo had some good songs with a little help from his friends sums up his solo career. he has an album out soon called Choose Love and Paul McCartneys album is out later this year

I was under the impression they released 3 albums, but I'm probably wrong.

I got the Dark Horse box set, I couldn't leave JB without buying it as soon as I saw it.

Sounds like you have all the albums there Bentleigh, but I'll suggest You Won't See Me, Taxman, Old Brown Shoe, Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey, Penny Lane, Eight Days a Week, Glass Onion.... ask me again next week - different answers.

It's a real 3MP/tragic 693 special with the horns & all, but also, Got to Get You Into My Life.
That's an awesome song, very upbeat! One of my favourites from Revolver, along with For No One and And Your Bird Can Sing.

You may be confused by the fact that the Wilburys entitled their second (and last album) "Volume 3." Just a bit of fun on their behalf!

As well as what everyone else has mentioned, In My Life is probably one of John's most beautiful songs, and not sure if anyone has mentioned these ones, but Why Dont We Do It In The Road, Dont Let Me Down, God (John Lennon Solo Work), Happiness is a Warm Gun, Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite, She's Leaving Home, Helter Skelter and Within You Without You are all sensational.

Check this site for a great and informative bio on each and every Beatles song.
