We really need a ruckman, and barry brooks isnt getting a game at the saints, was a high pick in the superdraft and he is a good forward option aswell as a ruckman, i would trade a second rounder for him, any thoughts.

Any reason as to why he isn't getting a game at St. Kilda?

I know nothing about the kid, so some info would be greatly appreciated

I have nothing to base this on apart from rumour but Port "let him go" due to off field issues. He apparently has a fair amount of talent but is not quite al dente in the head.

If he can't get a game at St Kilda over Rix and Clarke then what makes you think he'd get a game over Paul Johnson and Jamar

M Clarke is a A grade ruckman, and the saints recruited him as a quicky, with Rix he is more a hard at it type of ruckman. He and Paul Johnson would be a good combo until a younger player come through, he is much better then Jamar btw.

Port "let him go" because St Kilda offered them picks 6 and 31 for him and you already had Primus, Lade and Brogan at the club.

He was making good progress in 2003 before he did his knee. This put him out of action for 2003 and he spent most of 2004 inside a shell with no confidence in his ability at all.

He picked up his form in 2005 and pushed his way into the side for a couple of games, however he was written off by Thomas after he made a few terrible errors in (even though he was a ruckman playing in a back pocket).

2006 he spent dominating at full forward for Casey, but Thomas never had any intention of playing him. He was brought in against Brisbane (giving other clubs a look at him for trade week) in round 22 and ended up with 16 disposals, 8 marks, 3 goals and 7 hitouts after playing mainly at half forward with about 15 minutes in the ruck. Even though he was named BOG by most, he was dropped for our final.

This year he has been tearing it up in the VFL and has done well in his limited opportunities in the seniors. I have no idea why Lyon persists with an absolute dud in Rix and refuses to give Brooks a go.

Brooks is 198cm, 100kg, 23 years old

Strengths:
Very good skills
Strong contested mark
Directs hitouts well
Massive leap
Gets plenty of the ball around the ground
Can play forward (has the pace to burn off anyone who could compete with him in the air)

Weaknesses:
Very much a confidence player (if he gets the first hitout of the game and kicks an early goal he will be BOG, if he gets smashed in the first few ruck contests he tends to go missing)
Is pushed aside by bigger ruckmen
Question on durability
Average accountability (for a good reason though - he will hurt the opposition more than his opponent can hurt his team)

Brooks must have done something to piss Lyon off and Rix must have some photos that Lyon isn't exactly proud of, because Brooks should be playing senior footy.

I still have hope that Brooks will get an oppostunity this year and cement his spot at St Kilda, but if he doesn't, I fear that he will be cut. If that doe happen, I would rather that he is picked up by another club because he has serious talent

....Port "let him go" due to off field issues.....
Nope. mad-saint-guy had it right. We were falling over ruckmen then and Brooks didn't show enough to keep. Never heard of any behavioural or personal issues while with us.

A bit harsh, it's not like he's associated with Collingwood (no teeth and all) ;)

I don't know why he hasn't been getting a go this year, I think we've seen quite enough of Rix to realise he's a hack - at best, Rix is a VFL player. Brooks showed some good signs late last year in his limited opportunities and should be reinstated - his career is on the line here, so at least bring him in to see what he can do.

Rix is a animal, thats probably the only thing going for him, Brooks has much more talent, but the saints have a weird coach.

We dont need a new ruckman right at the moment, White will keep going for a few more years yet.
But here is a bit about Brooks- (Doesn't mean i want him to come to melbourne)
The big ruckman’s career at the club appeared over after again playing the majority of the year for the Casey Scorpions in the VFL. However, Brooks won a surprise senior recall in round 22 and, to his credit, made the most of his chance, kicking three goals against the Lions. Now he needs more of the same.

Draft history: 2001 National AFL Draft 1st round selection (Port Adelaide) No. 15 overall; 2002 National AFL Draft traded by Port Adelaide for No. 6 (Steven Salopek) and No. 31 (Joel Perry).

next you will be saying we will try and convince lawerence angwin out of retirement cause he was a high draft pick
He never retired, he was sacked, mainly because he acted like a *******, anyway he was a waste of talent, would've been a good player if he had a brain. Garry Lyon may be a good coach, but why is it that the saints arent one of the top teams this year, they have a super super list, and injuries have been good for the injury prone so why is it that arent a real contender.

What the **** does this random assortment of words mean?

Forgot he was even on there list still, I'd rather Watts over Brooks but then again i wouldn't really want neither. Brooks would be a very bad move IMO.
