I don't get why tennis players are so mentally weak though?

Look at all the world class athletes around the world who seem to be able to play at the highest sporting levels while experiencing ten times more noise and distraction than a tennis player would.

I mean look at basketball and what the crowds do to put off a player taking a free throw.
Interesting take which I disagree with entirely. I find it a really odd statement and I would say top tennis players are some of the most mentally strong in all sports.

I mean in basketball if you're having a bad few minutes you can be subbed off, have a bit of a mental and physical break and get back on the court after that. Or you could have a bad game but the rest of your team play well and carry you to victory.

Tennis has such fine margins of error on every shot, same as golf. If you have a distraction just before the moment of impact on your swing and it puts it off even a tiny bit, it can have a big effect on the shot. If you're a little off in your shot in basketball, your team can still rebound the ball.

I think it's difficult to compare the mental strength of team sports with individual sports. Maybe the QB in American football is one position that could be compared to an athlete in an individual sport, as so much of your team's success comes down to how good you are and you play.

I would say Djokovic is one of the strongest athletes in any sport from a mental strength point of view.

Danielle Collins is one tough bitch.

Collins is an absolute campaignerhole.

Gagf Collins you arrogant American douchebag

She’s a piece of human debris.

Destinee has dignity, Collins is an ugly American.

Eff off, you entitled American flog..........

Remember when you lost to Barty in the final Collins? yep now heck off

Collin’s has always been an arrogant byatch! And then sooks when things don’t go her way….

Was empathetic towards her with her medical struggles, but she’s shown herself to be a massive campaignerbag.
Heard Collins is a woman from not Australia

Let’s be honest - most of the higher ranked players are prima Donna’s. The lesser lights manage to play on the outside courts with trains whizzing past the back fence, people constantly walking by, talking etc without any whinging

Yeah I don't agree at all. Are batsmen in cricket prima Donna's when the sight screen is not in the correct position or someone walks past it nearby and the batter holds up play til they are happy it's clear?

Sports where the player hits a ball from stationary like serving in tennis or golf or snooker, generally require spectators to be quiet while the player takes their shot. These kinds of sports are completely different from ones where the ball is in constant motion and there are whole teams of players on the field like footy or basketball for example.

Just a sign of society imo. Aussies absolutely ragged on Sampras when he cried at the AO after a close death, now they'd be out for half the year and return to a slam with a PR. people are just way softer now but somehow far nastier.

It’s not hard to be quiet it’s called being respectful and why we need to be like basketball I have no idea. Cheer all you like during points but sit down and be quiet after that.

Least the doubles lost thankfully in general bar the Kyrigos, Kokkankis games the crowds have been fine it’s just those two and they are gone now.
One thing I've noticed in the last couple of years is the general misunderstanding of the expectations at the tennis. some woman the other day spent the whole first set incessentaly – as in she quite literally did not go 10 seconds without some inane story about bumping into some guy then bumping into another guy and they were both friends with her friend Marshall. do these people think everyone else is being quiet because they're so dull and have boring lives compared to her? like people on the train who just assume no one else plays loud music or has facetimes just because.

People trying to get into courts mid-point, the chatter.

It's quite endearing when someone understands tennis points are played in silence but they have to ask how many games are in a set or how doubles work, but these morons who go for a piss up and think it's an AFL game are a disgrace.

The fact there's a big bar hanging over the top of one court says everything. and I'm a heavy drinker.

90% of the time absolutely.

Watching the reactions to Collins all over the place has been fun. I saw someone describe her as a Karen. Which is pretty funny when she's managed to get so many crying over her... check notes... blowing kisses to a crowd that was against her most of the night.

Was a bit much from her? Of course but the tears being shed over an athlete giving it back to what are more and more often being called embarrassing crowds is hilarious.
