Aurelio Vidmar won't be here next season

He's not the only one who should be on the way out, some of his fantastic signings should be going with him, such as:

Kristian Sarkies - The playmaker who can't make play, and connects one good penetrating pass out of 50 each game.

Adam Hughes - How the hell did we pass on Rostyn Griffiths for a guy who moves slower than an iceberg, thinks slower than an ice age, and then when he does manage to still have the ball at his feet at the end of the 30 minutes it took to process receiving it, can't make a pass stick?

Cassio - He doesn't even want to be here anymore, you can see it plain as day on the pitch

Lucas Pantelis - Would barely be worth a squad depth position at most clubs

Lloyd Owusu - The wonder signing set to save us, who can't connect a 5 foot pass, can't score, and despite moving like and being a giant, can't hold the ball like a target man to save himself

Robert Cornthwaite - We should have let Norwich take him, while Rudan has been a decent replacement for Ognenovski, the shortfall there has really displayed just how ordinary Cornthwaite is

A new manager, with a gameplan that actually fits the talent we have - or shock horror, the ability to manipulate his gameplan based on the talent we have and what is needed at the time, rather than sticking to an incorrect philosophy that only worked as far as it did last season due to Ognenovski and Galekovic - and a decent playmaking midfielder, and we might not finish bottom next season.

Who does Vidmar answer to? The FFA? No chance of them doing anything.

Cassio might want to be here if he actually started. If I saw someone like Hughes constantly getting a game in front of me I would be disappointed too.

As far as I was aware, Adelaide United will be transferred from FFA control to a new consortium of owners before the end of the season, I've no doubts they're already making plans.

One of the foreign players has to go at least, since that Argentinian is coming to join us for the Champions League campaign.

He is the cancer in our club and we will not progress at all until he's removed.

Someone needs to buy the club ASAP and sack him as their first order of business, the fact that there are no owners breathing down his neck is making his arrogance even worse. This is the team that he built and they're just not good enough.

I've never been a fan but to be honest i cant see how he can be criticised now yet last year he was a great coach..? Not much has changed since then our game plan is pretty much the same theres just been a slight disconnection between the midfield and forwards this year but most of it is just due to having worse players this time around.

So apart from him adopting a defensive game plan most of the problems are due to things like low professionalism, crap feeder leagues, thins squads etc not necessarily things that he personally can control and most a-league clubs have similar issues.

lol, you've got no idea what you're talking about and you're just making baseless assumptions again.

These same criticisms of Vidmar go back to 2007/08.

There were actually big criticisms of Viddy last year despite the fact we came 2nd in the champions league and the 2nd in the A-League. We were actually very fortunate in our A-league results last year if you go back and look at it. We were riding our luck and Eugene went a long way towards that.

Viddy played a good style for the champions league, but adopted the same for the A-league, which was a defensive counter attacking game. We should have really dominated A-league games, but didn't in most cases and were able to pinch a result. Unfortunately this gave Viddy a false sense of his own ability, which has carried through to this year. What gets me is how the starting XI changed every week. Smacks of a coach who doesn't know what he is doing and is adopting the trial & error philosophy. However despite this trial and error he is yet to start the most obvious selection of having both Cristiano and Owusu up front. We haven't been able to score goals all year, but we are yet to start 2 strikers...just crazy.

Bit harsh on Sarkies, didnt think hes been too bad this season but everything else I agree with and its hard to add more. Hopefully this new group that want to take over can see AV isnt worth a pinch of s*** and move him on so we can get someone with an idea around the place.

I think the initial anger came last year from the performances against Melbourne where Viddie refused to change the system even though we continued to look second rate against them, and now his system won't work against anyone, and he's still unwilling to change it.

We are so 1-dimensional it is not funny, piss him off for good please.

See the thing is, we shouldve won a few more games this year if not for some pathetic finishing. Does this come down to Viddie's management ?? In some parts yes, but it also comes down to the utter shiteness of the strikers who are paid to put the ball in the net.

Do I think we should get rid of him ?? Yes I do, but is it all his fault ?? No not at all.

Hes a decent match day coach, Vidmars problems lie in the fact he couldnt spot talent at a Chelsea training session, his signings have been laughably bad since day one, Owusu is by far the worst marquee in A-League history, Adam Hughes might be the worst player and he keeps a player like Cassio who clearly wants to leave, get a director of football and get Vidmar some decent cattle to work with

Owusu isnt a marquee player..... but I see where youre going with it.

Vidmar is a useless manager, but not starting Owusu is the best thing he's doing.

Should be shipped back off to wherever he came from. He's ****ing atrocious. Has the bloke even played football before?

He's the black Voronin.

I was at the MCG on the 29th November 1997. The answer to our pathetic finishing may lay in the debacle of that night ...

Good point, however we were still 2-0 up that night......

Poor old Viddie. Atrocious manager, but he was on a hiding to nothing that night.

Had played just the one or two games of competitive football in 6 months because of a falling out with his La Liga club manager at Tenerife, yet still came out like a train in Melbourne, setting one up for Kewell and scoring one himself amidst creating a host of chances for himself and others, but was understandably rustier than a iron gate.

Ivanovic for Horvat (who was without a club, FFS!) and Mori, Trimboli or Aloisi on the end of all Vidmar's chances and we win that game standing on our heads.

I agree with this, except I mean 'me' literally. I don't understand why myself and half of my mates don't have an A-League contract if Adam Hughes can get one, and that is not an exaggeration.

And yes, Viddie needs to go. With the possible exception of Pantellis or a motivated Cassio, all those players need to go too.

Hopefully the loan deal with Perth can happen for the ACL so we can get rid of Hughes out of our midfield and have Sterjovski or someone at least part way competent. As for next season it looks like we might be getting some Argentinian dudewho appears to be an attacking midfielder as opposed to all our do-nothing midfielders. Get rid of Cristiano and Cassio and get a striker who can strike.

To be fair to Vidmar though, last night had nothing to do with his coaching. That was player incompetence through and through. They created the chances and just couldn't finish them.

There is no point playing a passing game with Owusu on the park. However he is good in the air and we could do a lot worse than use his strengths. Long balls into the mixer and have the likes of Cristiano, Dodd and Leckie floating around the box trying to poach a goal.

It may not be the purists way of playing the game, but nothing else is working and it is all about getting the ball in the back of the net regardless of how you go about it.

Our last goal from general play (non set piece) was a long ball into the box that Owusu got down to Hughes against the Victory. Before that you have to go back to Cassio's freak goal against the Jets.

Don't know how your bagging Sarkies, hes in the form of his life this season and even though Adelaide arnt winning its not his fault, and don't forget, hes not playing the play maker role anymore, hes playing as a defensive midfielder nowadays.

I endorse this post, last night he and possibly Alemao were the only two who looked like anything more than half interested.

Fully agree re: Sarkies. Playing some very handy stuff at the moment, more than can be said for his mates.

Yeah last season when we started losing it was brought up but before that we've basically played the same style (with better players) and no one really had any problem with it apart from ray.

most of that comes back to a lack of resources/professionalism of the club imo and when you think about it if even 1 or 2 of his signings had turned out ok (which you'd expect in a decent football department) we could still be right up there despite the issues we have.
