Welcome to the Ask an Atheist thread II.

Well, having been in the reverse situation to you, I also know my own scenario.
I was just joshing you.

At the end of the day, each person’s “meaning” and “fulfilment” are entirely subjective.

But what’s not subjective is that science is proven and religion is (conveniently) unfalsifiable. So I know which one I’m going to defer to.

I was a non Christian once, never an atheist, but made a deliberate move to Christ at age 28. Never looked back. I sought more meaning and purpose.

Since conversion, my love of animals has also enhanced, poodles, whippets, cats, you name it, we have/had them all here.

That old joke of - Lock your wife and your dog in the boot of your car for an hour, open the boot, who is happiest to see you?
You were always a believer, maybe not a strong one but always was one. That's the whole point. I was a strong Christian for almost half my life. Then i read the Bible, using my brain...

The point being you always ignore deconversion stories, the fact that so many people are leaving your religion and only listen to the ones you want to hear.

Jesus had no wife, dog, or a car:thumbsu:
In many other Gospels which are not in NT Jesus did. Mary Magdalene was his wife. Those Gospels were left out by Constantine in Nicea. Not just one, about 7 Gospels written during the time of John confirmed this.

Outside of that, Gnostic gospels also say the same thing.

Science and faith in God are definitely not mutually exclusive.

When I started reading the Bible, at age 28, it was with a hunger and open heart. Of course there are "issues"- we are all aware of them- but I keep saying and asking- What is God wanting us to know?
Keeping in mind God's inspired words were written by men, and many lifetimes ago, I do not look at it as a an accurate history, but really as God's messages to people.
You can bring up "using my brain" as much as you like, but a person with your enlightenment and spirituality- you could actually really get into Christianity with a different mindset.
You never need to undermine a believer's IQ or education, or reasoning ability, because many brilliant people from all walks of life, are believers. I am not one of those brilliant minds btw, and you don't need to remind me

so you read the bible expecting literal, explicit answers and was disappointed? I'm not surprised!

It is the attempt of people trying to explain their relationship with God over 3000 years. That is the truth of it. It is what it is.

How do you know that the words written by men are "God inspired"?

How do you know that the words in the Bible contain "God's messages to people"?

No I read the bible expecting god to have divine standards. Too much to ask for? Righteousness not obedience. Why is that so hard? God says not to look at a, woman with lust.. So we must defy biology to go to heaven?

God's messages to people? I have argued it's not God's message at all. You are not able to answer my questions and you have pointed to c. S Lewis. Not the best guy to confirm your belief system. 3 pages ago I made a post on him. Take a look.

Why would I get back to the cult that I ran from 20 years ago? That contains nothing original.. Horrendous morality.. Thought policing and threats if you dont join the exclusive club?? PLENTY of other religions are better buddhism and jainism for starters. Contains all things christ have said minus Paul's mad ramblings.

There is NO version of Christianity any person can get into unless they really want to believe. Your story is similar.

Maybe you should give that a go? But you don't wish to cause you were always a believer. Which is my point

Whether Bible is accurate or not is less of a, matter here I'm not even arguing that. You are the one arguing that. I'm saying picking and choosing what you wish to be true is the issue. For example..jesus says actions matter.. Words matter if u wish to go to heaven. Then Paul comes and states only way to salvation is through faith and repentence. Clearly overruling jesus.

Paul was a fraud who never met jesus and you got most of your book about jesus from him. I can continue for 100 pages but I'm on a tropical island sipping on a rum enjoying a great view with my family.. Your cult is the last thing I wanna think of. I'm here with done Swedish friends who just laughed looking at your post. They are scientists BTW. Says it all

That's always been your problem in this thread. YOU have defined God. You have limited God according to your standards, your understanding, your reading, your knowledge, and you go seeking spirituality elsewhere. How the Bible portrays God is but a glimpse of what He is./

None of us know what God the Creator is like, but what we can know is, as humans, we get to see God through Jesus.

It's biology, not my definition. Men secrete more testosterone, hence men are attracted much more to the opposite sex. It's not lust it's biology. So i am now going to hell for being a man basically?

Your Bible clearly states what's right what's wrong. Are you now telling me this is not the case? so what is the Bible useful for, apparently it's just a glimpse.

If the glimpse is so bad, do i wanna know more?

Depends on how interested you are in what it's all about, whether there is a possibility God is real, that Jesus is The Way to God. The Bible assists us there. It is brilliant, despite your critiquing. It is utterly brilliant.

There are many people alive today and in the past who have reconciled their science backgrounds with strong faith in God. For you to blurt out "rubbish" is just you in action.
Give me an example? Newton was a Christian, but couldnt figure out how gravity works perfectly.

God of gaps ain't God. Science doesn't need faith.

So men who are attracted to men have testosterone issues? This is too deep for you.

Repeating lies doesn't make it true. So you are telling me the fact it is brilliant where God thinks women are inferior and atheists like me are evil and we should all burn in hell for making a freedom of choice for the free will that he gave us?

Yeah brilliant logic, do you ever think twice about it?

Science does not but man does. Many men need God and science.

Science does not but man does. Many men need God and science.
Some men do, very few scientists now believe in God. In NASA about 3% of them believe in God.

With advancement of science, God is becoming extinct. You are still living in some 100 years ago where evolution was basically a myth.

You are too set in your ways about how you interpret the Bible. Once you decided you were an atheist, it's a crusade to find as much wrong with the Bible and its believers as you can, hence your hatred of Paul.

I'm living today with you, in 2025 almost, with many years of life experience that you have zero idea about.
