I started to have another poke around the internets, looking for more information about AOD-9604, the infamous experimental drug developed by Calzada that a number of Essendon players have apparently admitted to using.
This got me thinking about why it was used - what was known before all this blew up that caused Essendon Football Clubs chief sports scientist to think it was a good idea to give to footballers.
I was finding basically nothing, then something twigged - this is a peptide with a bunch of different names. Calzada tried to get the more reputable sounding Lipotropin to stick, but it kept being called AOD-9604.
But if you want to go deep into the weeds, you dont ask about Lipotropin or AOD-9604. You're looking for references to HGH-Frag 176-191, which is what AOD-9604 was called before it was called AOD-9604. If you hang out in the wrong circles, its often shortened to Frag.
This 2008 thread was the earliest I could find.

Bbossman reports this "I used the HGH fragment from Superior last year at this time right before vacation 4 weeks on 4 weeks off 4 weeks on again and I liked it. Had good fat loss while my strength stayed high, I am sure due to the test. I ran it with cyp, and tren but had to stop the tren due to bp issues. I would give it a shot I liked it...."
This 2011 thread, from our old friends at Testosterone Nation, has an interesting comment, which I have bolded.

" To date, studies suggest that HGH Fragment 176-191 has several beneficial features: it reduces abdominal fat, without compromising glycemic control (blood glucose), it increases muscle mass and improves the lipid profile. HGH is Human Growth Hormone, a natural hormone produced in the pituitary gland of the brain. "
This 2011 thread, its fair to say, has most people unimpressed with frag as an alternative to HgH itself

May 2012, so a little later - but interesting

2010 thread - regarded as a pure fat burner

OK, so if we hang around the sleazy frontiers of biochemistry, we have a lot of chatter about how it's a very good fat burner, and a minority view that it increases muscle mass.
Of course, if you want someone more respectable, then you can go here to see why an actual doctor regards AOD-9604 as S2 as all get out.
