Watched the first of nine's Million Dollar Reward series last night, on Amanda Byrnes; was quite good, heartbreaking near the end regarding her reading, but the emphasis on the Morris van had me thinking. The current detective in charge at one point said something along the lines of "there were 1,800 similar vans...we couldn't check them all" That figure is amazing to me - I would be staggered if there were that many registered in Australia let alone Victoria at that time, 20 years after they were made. That appears to be a figure of total Morris vans sold in Victoria in period...but why that is important and not existing rego'd ones at the time of the murder is puzzling. Un-regoed cars driven on the road rarely go long before detection. Actually it is such an uncommon car I was pondering whether the one used in the re-creations was unknowingly the car at the centre of the crime.
