After what seemed like an endless pre-season, the 2017 home and away season finally commences this weekend.

Collingwood’s season opens with an enormous challenge, facing last year’s premiers the Western Bulldogs at the MCG this Friday night.

After three years out of the finals, the Magpies know that season 2017 needs to deliver a lot more, and a good start is essential. In some regards, facing the Bulldogs in round one is ideal timing for the Magpies, who simply need to make an early statement. A win against the reigning premier would be a huge confidence boost.

And now

80,000 screaming fans

Go Pies

Will be there tonight. Enjoyed seeing Carlton lose last night but now for the main course. We will rightly be underdogs, pardon the pun, but an upset is not without chance. Hope for a strong showing as a minimum. I tipped us with my heart and because I always tip the Pies in any tipping comp I am in but the head probably says otherwise

Underdogs.
Yes we are. Agree.

Funny thing in Australia everyone wants to be the underdogs; in the land of America they all say they are going to win

Pumped! Got the boys coming around as I don't count last night as the start of the season haha. I'll be happy if we are within four goals at the final siren. I'll be ecstatic if we win. I think we are more then capable but just have to see what happens. Rather watch us take the game on then be pussies and mess around with it

Staggering that, and also a concern that we continually turn the list over in a big way. Of course it wouldn't be so many if everyone was fit (maybe 7 changes) but it would still be a decent turnover.

I like the 22 we have picked tonight but let's be honest its a long way off the 22 we really wanted for round one.

Oh well I'll be there, hoping.

Speaking of what is the expected crowd?

Im gonna guess 70,000

AFL would be RAPT with 70K.

I'm expecting 60K. I mean, in 2010 we played a Qualifying final against the Dogs and only got something like 66K. This is a Round 1 match following a season where we sucked. Even 60K is being generous most likely.

I'm going to the game this year. Not sure if I'm emotionally ready after 6 months of anticipation. I think we should win $3.15 outsiders is good value for money. We pushed the dogs twice last year.
I would be more confident if Elliot played, however I don't see anyone who could match up with Cox. I think he's gonna be our POD.

Just offloaded a gorilla on the Pies at $3.15.

Looking forward to watching the boys at the G tonight. Usually I prefer to watch Friday night games on the TV with a few drinks and mates, but the weather is fine, the opposition is strong and Clokey is playing against us. Be great to soak up the atmosphere of a Pies' game again. Who will play on Cloke?
