Took my best little mate to the open day at HMAS Cerberus ..... was kinda ok, blowy as all get up, and more a tour of the facility than a Naval Open day, which I am sure my BLM expected. We didn't queue for the boat ride, but he was disappointed that there was no shooting, or explosions or fire-starting for the kids to do. There was some small arms simulated firing range displays, and some firefighting displays, but nothing hands on for a potential gun wielding pyromaniac tree climbing all wheel drive kid to get into. There were some fitness obstacle challenges to roll through, but he was a little old for them. Not a bad day though :-)

This i agree will be where he are hit hardest. Some have said there is a risk of china dumping in our market but realistically we dont manufacturer much of that stuff anyway so dumping here will likely be more beneficial than disadvantageous. Aslo even with a 30 or 40 pecent tariff 9n chinese goids in the US. This wil he on the wholesale markup so the actual increase once it gets to wallmart with thier markup will be less percentage wise.

Was a blowy day, coming off westernport bay as well. Its so bloody dry still the dust from bringing in the calves was terrable.

If its shooting he wants maybe the next outing should be down franga or broady 😉

Speaking of shooting, went to the local agri show a few weeks back and was surprised they stil have the sluggies in sideshow alley.

Anyway the fire danger period ends next week so might be a few bonfires for his pyro aspirations.

It’ll be an interesting watch.

I suspect Beijing will respond by creating even more domestic stimulus programs, which could mean the miners and industrials get a soft landing.

SE Asian countries have done major trade deals with china in the last few months and backed away from US.
However some Chinese businesses are unreliable like the company behind the high rise that collapsed in Bangkok.
They used sub standard steel.

Same thing happened in Cambodia down in sihanoukville where a building collapsed built by the chinese. They tend to toe the line a bit more in china itself as when they stuff up there they get executed like in the baby formula melamine saga.

28 workers died and others injured in Sihanoukville.
The company responsible in Bangkok has about 20 more projects in Thailand including a hospital.

Yeah it sucks. We had been to sihanoukville about 4 times. The last time we went back the place was stuffed and we went to kampot. They literally bulldozed all the rainforrest around the point from serendipidy beach and buit a road there. Also all the local beach traders were moved out and it was just all chinese casinos. Since then a lot of the Chinese money dried up and the place is like a ghost town.

I thought thailand had a bit more of their own capital. But i guess the chinese reach into asean nations is pretty thick

Chinese businesses are everywhere in Asia and have been for a long time. Even in the pacific. Its a huge diaspora that goes back for a very long time.

Genie has been out of the bottle for a long time. Only a matter of time before this happened and it'll only be a matter of time before other, seriously ****ed up things happen.

True however some countries at least have stable enough governments that insist the foreign investers at least stay in their lane. India is another country with expats scattered all over asia and the pacific regions doing buisness.

Poor old coruption littered Cambodia doesn't stand a chance. Thailand and Vietnam at least have a bit of bite. But like demonstrated in the earthquakes with that building collapse hasnt helped them here. You gotta wonder how many other timebomb buildings have been constructed as well?

Some of those Chinese and Indian people have had their families living in other parts of Asia and the pacific for centuries, in some cases for over 1000 years. Many times they built their businesses without help from China or India, who were unable to even help themselves most of the time.

Yeah. Not much you can do about it other than tell China to piss off and that won't happen.

“If you want to offend someone under 30, it is fairly simple: Refer to them as “champ,” and they’ll be instantly annoyed – even insulted!
The classic Aussie habit of calling someone “champ” short for champion, is not going down well with Generation Z”
