A-League Round 5 Discussion Thread

Hi guys,

Bit nervous here as it's my first thread creation on this board. As a relative newbie I hope not to disappoint you. Reminds me of the time I was in deep conversation with 2 attractive women in Hong Kong. The night was getting on, and we were all in an amiable mood. I cheekily said we should all go back to my hotel room. One of them said ok, the other wasn't so sure. Then I realised maybe it isnt a good idea, I mean, if I wanted to disappoint two people simultaneously why not have dinner with my parents.

I digress.

First thing you'll notice here is that Melbourne Victorys shield colour is black. Come on google get it right!

BRISBANE ROAR v MELBOURNE CITY
Both teams desperately need to win to keep in touch with the league leaders. Roar had a good win against Perth last round thanks to McLaren who has been duly rewarded with a Socceroos call up against Thailand.

City also won last week by the same scoreline in a controversial game which saw Kilkenny theatrically fall to the ground courtesy of a brush with death. I hear he is ok, but we are still waiting for any retrospective punishment. Not sure there will be any as silence from FFA so far. City have no denounced this act. For those who are unfamiliar with the incident, see below

Should be a cracker of a game. Cahill has been dropped from the Socceroo squad. Winner will receive the Luke Brattan-Ivan Franjic Trophy. If City win, Yoshi will receive it.

WELLINGTON PHX vs NEWCASTLE JETS
What can we say about the Nix. They were abysmal Monday night. Perhaps they were all thinking about the races, or something. Certainly wasn't about football. They have to get a result after scoring their first goal of the season courtesy of a penalty. They have the best kit in the league, but that's about it for now. Dunno what to expect here.

SYDNEY FC vs MELBOURNE VICTORY
The Big Blue. Sydney are flying high and havent conceded a goal yet! WTF? MVFC just put 6 past Sunday Church League side Welly. But we know when it comes to this game all form goes out the window.
Should be a big crowd to see these arch enemies go at it.

Someone loves stirring emotion in this game

He will be keen to get restless his hands on the Seb Ryall Trophy at games end.

Did you know in the early years, Foxsports nicknamed this sydney team "FC". So in this case FC take on Victory. Really?

ADELAIDE REDS UTD VS CENTRAL COAST MARINERS
Do Adelaide even have enough players after their injuries? Who could they lose this week?
A MUST WIN game for both teams to escape the relegation zone that doesn't exist. We've covered last weeks Adelaide game already, they will be hoping for some luck this week which has deserted them all season long.

For the Mariners, they'll look to ride the momentum gained from last weeks come from behind draw.

TBD vs WS WANDERERS
Expecting an easy win to the WSW. TBD have been dreadful this year.

Nice thread, much more content than mine :)

Tips:

Brisbane Roar vs. Melbourne City - 1-1 (14k)
Wellington Phoenix vs. Newcastle Jets - 2-1 (9k)
Sydney FC vs. Melbourne Victory - 1-0 (18k)
Adelaide United vs. Central Coast - 3-0 (12k)
Perth vs. WSW - 2-2 (10k)

I can't believe that there isn't a game in Melbourne this weekend. Is this one of the weeks where there's some bullshit gig on at AAMI Park that will **** the surface for the rest of the season like Taylor Swift and the red head bloke did last year? Or is it just shit fixturing?

Seems weird - in their discussion of expansion, the AFL would regularly speak about having a game in NSW & Qld every week as a primary motivation. It seems strange that the FFA/A-League seem to not give a shit.

Only this afternoon I was thinking about how the Victory have the annual Cup Day eve fixture now, and wondering whether the Spring Racing Carnival doesn't give an opportunity for City to host a regular Thursday night game. It probably wouldn't be as popular as the Cup eve game. But what City game is ever as popular as a Victory game?

Maybe it's cos I didn't work today or tonight, and cos I was fortunate enough to stay home watching the Oaks and the cricket - but it just felt to me like there should've been a football game on in Melbourne tonight. Had it been City vs a decent team I would've happily pissed off the cricket and gone for a look.

-------

Onto the matches:

City will beat Roar 3-1
Nux and Jets will draw 1-1
Sydney and Victory will draw 2-2
Adelaide will beat the Mariners 1-0
Perth will whack the Wanderers 5-0 - the Wanderers stink, and it's an indictment on how poor the news coverage of A-League is that people don't seem to have noticed.

I felt pretty good about the Victory this week - but with Valeri still out, and with Beister still not fit (or if I'm cynical, with the club wanting to debut him at home), I'm not confident. With George Howard into the squad, I'm even less confident! (Not that I expect him to play - Ingham will come into the squad for Georgevski.)

Letting Galloway go is already burning us this week with Georgevski out, and with Valeri's absence requiring that Broxham play midfield. I kind of hope we pair up Ansell and Donarchie and play Baro alongside Brox, but I don't see it happening - I think Bozanic goes back to the number 8 role that he sucks at, Troisi starts at 10, and Nigro plays at left back on his non-preferred side.

With all the activity in this thread for a Melbourne City away game, is it safe to assume that the #greenseatelite have infiltrated BF?

:D

Didn't realise the Glory were rebranded as TBD :(

Friday night City lotto

Friday night games I normally watch/tune in to we drop points, if I go to bed early/or go out we normally win

.......
I'm watching nobbyiscool

Typically losing :$

Fair play to Brisbane. Defended really well. And three or four really good chances to score as well. Disappointing from City. Plenty of possession but didnt do enough with it.
Nothing in the final third, went wide all the time, nothing creative centrally

There are few things I would enjoy more in life than to see Seb Ryall stretchered off the pitch with half his shin bone sticking out of the back of his calf.

Heart showing that essentially nothing has changed. Sub 10k at their next home game?

It's just a loss in a game of football, I wouldn't read too much into it. Nor would I read too much into the attendance in the next home game. But that's probably a bit much to ask for some who seem abnormally obsessed by it.

Why Wellington out of curiosity? You a Kiwi or an AEK fan? lol
Australian, and Panionios, so none of that haha.

Adelaide were shit at the time and I already had a softspot for the slightly-less-shit Phoenix. Great colours, great fans, great nickname, great kit supplier ;) :yellowheart:
