This is how I interpret what is going on with LDU contract talks.
His manager told LDU at the start of the year that some clubs are interested in signing him as a free agent and that North want to start negotiating now so let's put off negotiations for this year and let this ferment.
Agent advises North that they won't be negotiating until after the season at the earliest as LDU would like to concentrate on his football. They would also have said that LDU loves the club and he sees his future here and that when the time right the two parties will get together and commence the process.
Move forward ro the end of this season. LDU's management have received official offers from probably 3 clubs, Saints, Bombers and Hawks. I'd say offers from $1.3M to $1.5M per year and long term and that may get higher if they maintain the competative tension.
I believe their strategy will be to work out the market rate for LDU and then begin negotiations with North in a strong position. LDU would be hoping that North get with $200K and if we stiff him then he needs to weigh up some considerations.
