Heard some of his interview on Friday night after the VFL game, said he felt good, just needs to get match fitness back. Where would he fit in?
Forward pocket with bursts on the ball. Make him an accountable forward who runs down defenders. Have him contesting stoppages in forward 50 and getting an occasional bonus goal. That’s the gap that needs filling until we find our next Tippa. Otherwise I don’t see a spot for him. At his best he’s in our midfield mix but for team progression he has to now be a gap filler.

Does his role look different now with the rise of Durham and Caldwell? A fortnight ago you could say he didn't have a spot in the middle, and possibly even in the best 23. Might be wishful thinking but at his best he could compliment the current midfield mix nicely. Whether he can get back to his best is another question.

Going back to his GWS days (if I recall correctly) he didn't need to be in inside mid and he was a much more dangerous player on the burst and on the outside. Good problem to have nonetheless.

Barring additional injuries, I'm not sure who comes out of our 23 to make room for him. Especially when we already need to find room for Setters, Perkins, Reid, and eventually Rids over the next month or so.

No half cooked Shiel please. Had 20 to half time and finished with 24. Haven’t watched the game, maybe he got rested, but we have seen previously that when Shiel is not 100% physically he is a liability around the ground. Would rather stay with the current mix and give Shiel some more conditioning time

Played mainly forward and a lot less time on the ground in the second half.
He is close based on his first half form but IMO he should play one more VFL . Full midfield time .

Is anyone concerned he only kicked it 4 times out of his 24 touches.

We don’t really need him as a grunt player anymore, we definitely do need him to be able to get on the fly and kick it with some penetration though

Agree. I’m concerned about what Shiel can provide once is athleticism declines…

Was just the role they had him playing on the day.

Sub is only proper option. Don’t think he’d help in the middle much anymore. Yeah maybe forward but don’t think his pressure would be that much better than Menzie or Davey and he’s kicking’s not reliable enough.
