Player Watch #46: Robert Hansen Jnr - Extends to End 2026

Offers nothing, it’s quiet sad. Hating writing players off but Stephenson offered way more and he wasn’t anything special.

It's a team standards thing. I don't think he played in a way that befits an AFL player on the weekend. Bring Hardeman in and rearrange a few of the floating parts.
Saw him be completely uncompetitive in Adelaide. Backed him in. Saw him be completely uncompetitive at home. Lesson learnt? Probably not. Team standards continue to be a complete shambles. The club has no hard edge anymore.

I think he has some class with the ball in hand, but is extremely poor at winning 50/50 situations or anything resembling a hard ball. Can this be taught or will it come as his body matures? Not sure, but currently anything he can contribute with ball in hand is unfortunately wiped off with his weak efforts around the ground and general lack of presence.

agree, all for giving a run of games, but he hasn't taken the opportunity, back to the magoos for me as well,

There was a moment in the opening QTR which I think was his first interaction in the game. A chance to run at the ball and confront traffic. He put the body in neutral and went sideways. If we keep accepting soft terminology like “not a good look” or “could have gone harder there” etc, then we don’t progress as a club.

If he was a Josh Rachelle type who has far more polish in and around the goals, but is still a squib, then it might be tolerable. But we’re not getting the goals and there can only so many opportunities given before the experiment is sent to the VFL laboratory to learn how to influence a game. Must go this week for someone who will tackle and not shit the bed when contact is coming.

VFL and work on his issues, no further selection until he has proven he can go when he has to go.

You cannot run past an opposition player with the ball ffs.

Really disappointed in his form the last two weeks. That contest, or non-contest, v. Blakey was not to the standard. I'm off the bandwagon for now. He's still young , there's time, and he has the skills. Just needs to put it all together consistently. In the VFL, for now.
