Bio...

Left-footed, powerfully built midfielder with penetrating kick. Can play across half-back.
What the club says...

Matthew is an ultimate competitor who plays with aggression and thrives on the physical contact.
He is a good clearance player, who is creative with his hands and has good lateral movement. He also is a neat kick, has a very strong work rate and pushes himself to exhaustion.
We are pleased to add Matthew to our list and have no doubt he will leave no stone unturned to being the best AFL player he can be.
He took our eye because of his competitiveness. He increased his ability to win the contested footy over the course of the year, and we think that's the type of player that will stand up at AFL level in the future. He's an ultra-competitive and very driven kid, and although he's got a little bit of work to do in a couple of areas, we think his competitiveness will enable him to be the best that he can.

Richmond has selected inside midfielder Matthew Arnot with its final selection in the 2011 National Draft.

The Oakleigh Chargers 18-year-old had a consistent year for Oakleigh, where he was a strong contributor in their push to the grand final.

His frame and left boot reminds me of Hunt from Geelong, hopefully he can crack a spot in the midfield asap.

iin the pre game warmup v Geelong, Hunt was torping it into the centre circle off one step and making it look like childs play, if this kid can be one of those i'd be more than stoked.....

If true, surely he did something other than having a boosted ego to get everyone an early 5:30am beach session. Strange no one has mentioned this before though.

Maybe in years gone by, but if it's true, then good. Glad we didn't know.

This kind of thing would happen at most clubs you'd think, good to know the boundaries are drawn and being enforced (if true of course).

I'm sure the kid will learn quick enough ;)

A footballer with an ego, who'd have thunk :p

Matt Arnot
Had an excellent first quarter, but did not have the same offensive influence for the remainder of the game. His defensive efforts, however, remained intense, and he finished with a game-high seven tackles.

Matt Arnot
Racked up 21 possessions in a good four-quarter effort. More importantly, he showed an improvement with his ability to play defensively when the opposition had possession.

Matt Arnot
Had a good, solid game. Continues to terrify the opposition with his strong tackling. Is very good at playing the inside-midfield role, but needs to get a little outside ball as well.

Matt Arnot
Physically monstered some of his Frankston opponents with 10 crunching tackles. His first half was very strong, but he faded out of the game after half-time. Finished with 20 possessions, but needs to be able to put four quarters together.

Played only three quarters, given the fact he was an emergency for the Richmond team. Is learning to play the half-forward role and his first half was below standard, with both his ability to find the ball and correctly position at stoppages. His third quarter was much better, with nine disposals generated from correct positioning and an increased work rate.

A solid performance from Matt, who is continuing to learn the half-forward role and is getting better each week. It was particularly pleasing to see him kick a couple of goals, which is something he has been working on.

Matt Arnot
Played on a wing and through half-forward, but didn’t have as much impact as he’s had in other games this season. Kicked a good, long goal before coming off during the third quarter with a minor ankle injury.

Matt Arnot
Returned after a five-week lay-off due to an ankle injury and had a quiet game in terms of possessions. Played through the midfield and also had stints at half-forward and on the wing in the second half. Was great to see him have eight tackles and his conditioning will continue to improve with more games under his belt.
