Is he playing forward or back? I assume the latter as Coxy looks foolish throwing McCartin back after just one game but he did also drop Sheldrick after one game so you never know.

Regardless, I’m stoked for Hamling. He deserves a crack and not just one shot at it either when we’re about play the reigning premiers and could be given a bath.
Improves us either way, but assume defence. Can always switch if needed.

Good to see him in the team finally.

Played very well.

Hope Horse noticed.
It really was baffling why he wasn't selected.

We went out and recruited him as a mature-ager, he was fine in the reserves (albeit much of the time up fwd) and yet you sensed he was never going to get an opportunity, at either end.

Good to see him pull on the guernsey at last and as Cadsky says he definitely should hold his spot.

Perhaps give him another year? Seems fit enough. I still want Edwards to come through but even if Hamling remains back up at least he can lock down.

I'm tempted to agree but only if we rate him more useful than Francis. We can't really afford the list spots to keep them both while we also have a few young defenders coming through: Edwards, Snell, Andrew. Think we have to back our youth, if we rate them, rather than journeyman depth.

I don't think we necessarily do rate Hamling higher than Francis (despite selecting just Hamling currently) - it's just that Hamling plays the lockdown role better and that's what we need at the moment. Francis is the better interceptor. Not sure who is more versatile, since Hamling proved himself very handy as a forward at VFL level last year.

That's the key (pun intended). Hamling the better lockdown, Francis the better interceptor. Neither is a gun but both are handy.
A lot depends on how Cox views McCartin. He, Melican, these two plus the three you mentioned are probably one too many, but if he sees McCartin as a forward....... Also depends how we see our two tallish Academy boys, King and Chamberlain. Both over 190 but are they going to be KPFs? Who would be a list manager!

He’s just a classic Swans tall defender. Honest, hard working and no nonsense in the Craig Bolton, Heath Grundy, Dane Rampe mould. Working his way towards getting a new contract and has absolutely overtaken Francis as the next up key defender.

Could mean Will Edwards may never debut which is an interesting thought; he’d have been thinking he’s in with a shot at playing this year I suspect but Hamling, Melican and McCartin will be hard to unseat.

One more year developing won't hurt him. Hasn't turned 22 yet. For a tall it's early days in his development.

My thoughts exactly. I'm not sure that Hamling has "gone past" Francis as much that Cox is selecting horses for courses. Hamling can and does lock down. Francis not so much, but he's still a useful fellow.

I can never get over just how ridiculous this playing him as a forward was. It was so bad it was laughable and to then have to play Francis...I get that coaches try things I do but how about if it's not working you pick the guy where he's comfortable.

We have too many KPDs and not enough FFs. Pretty simple.

That doesn't mean you play a defender there here's an idea- draft a forward if that's what you need or trade one in take your pick. It was so dumb and it's being proven more dumb every game Hamling plays
