Highly regarded for his clean, composed, first class disposal - Sam's surname is very apt, delivering to his teammates silver platter service :thumbsu:

"Far away from East Fremantle Oval, another West Coast premiership player, Sam Butler, made an enterprising return to football, albeit in a practice game in the Subiaco reserves against Peel.

Butler played for the Lions because his aligned club, Perth, was among five teams who watched on as the season opened around them. He accumulated 21 possessions in a positive return after a thigh strain."

Definite best 22 player when fit. We shouldn't rush him but have him ready to go around round 3-4. He's a great defender, able to stop his opponent but is skillful enough to rebound out of defense with accuracy. If Hurn isn't getting a kick out of the defensive 50 this guy should be. Kick not as elite as hurn's obviously but a very neat kick/very good decision maker.

BUTLER PRESSES CLAIM

As a rule, selection panels are loathe to change a winning combination, but the West Coast Eagles match committee is coming under pressure to do just by the form of players on the team’s periphery.
There will be at least one change from the team that beat Port Adelaide on Saturday, with rugged defender Beau Waters facing an extended period on the sidelines after suffering an elbow injury on Saturday and there is a growing queue of players looking for their chance.
Ironically, at the top of the list to replace him is Waters’ close mate and fellow defender Sam Butler, who also came to the club via the 2003 draft. The hard-nosed Waters was taken at selection 11, with Butler snared with pick 20. Both played in the 2006 premiership, but neither has had a fair run of luck in the injury stakes in the last eight years.
Butler is on the way back from a thigh strain and was a prominent player for Perth when they won a thriller by a point against South Fremantle on Saturday. He had 19 possessions off half-back and picked off many opposition forward thrusts with astute reading of the play.

10/10 for Sam Butler this year.

Ultra-impressed and surprised by him lately, there are now very few players who make me feel as comfortable with the ball in their vicinity.

Great defensively and super-poised. Just what you need in the backline. Banfield Mk 2.

Still has 5 or 6 more years - let's hope his injuries are behind him!! :thumbsu:
