26 years in Detroit is major red flag to me they have been to the playoffs 5 of those 26 years. He was there for the 0-16 season its a marvel he was able to stick around that long.
Doesnt really matter what we think, if BJ says that who he wants though you'd do it.

Of course you doesn’t mean you can’t worry about the results.

Especially if he had anything to do with scouting with lions from mid 2000s to late 2010s

Thinking the Bears should go with Todd Monken if they dont get Johnson, I think hes the best of the rest of them. Bit old but he still seems an innovative play caller to me, his offenses have produced wherever hes been.

You'd certainly want to know what his involvement was in the decision making process around draft and free agency selections.

Quite often though a director of scouting for instance has no say in the actual decision making process when it comes to making draft picks or even setting the board.

I have just spoken to someone extremely well connected in NFL circles who said that it would not surprise them if Ben Johnson agrees to a contract with a team without actually having an in person interview with said team.

Typically I would doubt such information, but knowing the person who told this to me and their reputation, it's worth at least keeping in the back of your mind if you're a Raider, Bear or Jaguar fan.

No having a go at you Chewy316, but that sounds absolutely absurd.

Johnson seems like an attention to details sort of a guy.

Now on the other hand if you told me that same story about Rex Ryan, you might just have a believer.

Hes also from Illinois if that makes a shred of difference.
I wouldn’t be against it if as expected Johnson goes to LV but really no one else apart from BJ ( now Vrabels gone) enthuse me much

I agree with you, but the person who told me this has a pretty impeccable reputation, which is why I posted it here.

I'm not saying it happens, just that it wouldn't be a surprise if it went down that way.

I don't see how getting someone like Mike McCarthy wouldn't be a home run hire for the Bears if they can't get Johnson. McCarthy has a great track record getting the best out of QBs, and he has a long standing history of winning as a head coach with multiple organisations. Far from a sexy hire per se, but you could do a lot worse.

Without naming names who is this source? Like, is he a Raiders front office person? A friend/family member of a Raiders employee? Someone who works as a beat writer?

I can't be that specific, sorry.

Definitely not the case of a family member or a friend of someone involved in the situation though. This is a primary source of information who has been in the industry for multiple decades.

Gotta be a beat writer then (i guess based on that)

Vincent Bogsinore or Vic Tafur

Haha, both are good dudes who have covered the Raiders for a fair time now. I've never met Vinny but friends of mine who have say he's a nice guy. Have heard a few negative things about him in terms of his media coverage from fellow reporters when I was writing for Silver & Black Today, though.

I've actually been reading Vic's stuff going back to when he started covering the Raiders for SFGate in 2009 - a time when he was still known as "Vittorio." When I was very sick 6 years ago Vic saw my story, reached out and shortly thereafter I got a message from Derek Carr wishing me well on my recovery, which was really cool at the time.

I’ve come around to not hating it, but I agree with A11dAtP0w3R assessment he’ll raise the floor but maybe not to a level that’s competitive enough to challenge. Almost impossible in Chicago with the family that run it though.
He’s also coached the 2 sides I hate most so I need to come to terms with that too 🤣
