Wait, considering those sides rarely played Friday night games, are you saying you get (essentially) at least five games on free to air every round? sometimes six? and at minimum four?
Yep. Unless they play eachother.
Syd and Brisbane did have a few fri night games but essentialy yes
AFL cant stop tv signals crossing state borders.

So you can pick up both 7 NSW and 7 Queensland? interesting shit. surely there have been times where you've conned the four FTA matches and the four locally televised ones?

When did the MCG suddenly reach 110K?
Last time Collingwood was in a dynasty they were drawing 120k at the MCG???

So another floating fixture after round 15?

Does anyone outside AFL HQ and C7 actually think that this is a good idea?
Does AFL HQ even think it?

It only suits the tv networks.

I understand not wanting to be stuck with crap prime time games, but they should announce it earlier once the season starts.

Geelong to get their annual final round game against a bottom side at home?

League needs to guarantee they’ll get that final percentage boost can’t leave anything to chance
As opposed to getting the bottom side at home at any other point of the year? Did the AFL introduce double points for the final round without anyone realising? Might be time to just admit Geelong broke you rather than carrying on in multiple threads about us. It won't make the 07, 09, 11, or 22 finals series go away. :thumbsu:

If you're flying from Hong Kong to Australia, surely a team playing on Thursday night or Sunday evening is mostly redundant, like you're not going to just come down for a day or two are you?

Floating fixture is good. planning your entire life over a football fixture in 10 months' time is a little bit over the top. if you want a footy trip piss up with your mates then the direct bounce down times are sort of irrelevant – you're going to be in the area for that weekend regardless.

It makes the most important part of the home and away season have the best fixturing. don't get the drama. that period ten years ago where Carlton were getting pumped every Friday night was shithouse.
We have our long break over July August, right in the middle of the floating fixture. for example this year we had games in Sydney, Hobart and Melbourne during this time but I couldn't book flights until the floating fixture locked in and by then I already have family events etc...locked in. I only get to see live games in these few weeks so I want to see as many as I can. If I knew early I could have scheduled to see the GC game which ended up being one of the few games of the year we actually won. Instead I watched us get whooped by Sydney in Sydney. I know I am not the only Australian traveling back to Aus for July/August.

I just think you can see the shape of the 8 pretty early on. There's not a huge amount of change late so the sooner they lock in the floating fixture the better.

Why would you move Dreamtime from Saturday night to prime time Friday? Esepcially when both teams project to be bad/terrible.

So far Rd 1 confirmed

Rich v Carl mcg

Haw v Ess mcg

Gee v Freo kp
Syd v Lions scg
Coll v PA mcg
Dogs vs Nth marvel

Adl v Stk AO
Wce V GCS optus

Which only leaves GWS v Mel ??, you would think that would be in NSW to avoid having a game clash with the Grand Prix on Sunday

Getting a Friday night flight, after work, and then finding that the team plays the Thursday or Friday; or flying back on the Sunday and finding the team plays on the Sunday could make a difference.

Even without that distance, it makes a difference. Sunday games are a no-go even from here because flights to Canberra - even months out - after about 2pm on a Sunday are ridiculously expensive. And without knowing the fixture early, it can easily add $200 to the cost of a round trip (often an extra $400 if it was to mean a Sunday night flight back on a few weeks notice).
When trying to make a shorter, more affordable trip, knowing the fixture as far in advance as possible is vital. I won't even look at trying it with floating fixtures, its simply going to be too expensive. As it is I usually go via surface travel at least one way, on the rare occasion I get to a game at all.

Haha good on you mate. You can admit you have get a leg up from the league with the fixturing and soft cap. If you don’t believe me ask any Richmond fan on this board.
