Definitely the second best of the lot, but the leap of DGB and taking it at the highest point - was just a textbook speccy.
DGB's looked the best but surely the highest point part is pure luck, they're jumping on the back of the bloke with the pads and dealing with whatever is incoming and in his case the ball came in higher and he had to get up higher and stay up a bit longer. The other two they had no option but take the ball lower.

In some ways those contested marks that drop short and you have to go a bit more horizontal over the bloke you're step laddering are the toughest and riskiest(not that either of the other two were that). Those ones where you try to stay up longer and higher and get a real ride look great but you'd always love those.

I don't think it's pure luck, you've still got to take the mark.

This sounds plausible, however timing the leap to take the ball at the highest point isn't always pure luck, is it?

Watching Sis' go for marks is a joy to watch, his ability to read the flight of the ball off the hoof is one of the best in the league, this is what DGB has, his vision is great. If he comes on it will be amazing to see, but one good skill doesnt make the player, i think it is his all round game that needs the click. If and when it comes will dictate where he plays, still think it is as a third tall, i'll watching on with great interest. I hope he brings it all together.

Geez DGB doing something good and still getting no credit. Long off season…
It was only a perfectly timed and executed speckie. Basically just a standard chest mark to a stationary target except utilising athleticism, coordination and out-stretched hands. Any Auskicker could have done that with as many chances as DGB has got!

My favourite recent Hawk to watch going for contested grabs was Lake. His ability to read the flight, position himself with strength and subtly keep his opponent out of the contest while he took a casual mark was without peer. Loved it.

Just going throw my support behind DGB too. Loved his grab, love what he brings in terms of commitment and aggression and I rreckon it will all click into place soon. Maybe not fully this year but we’ll see more glimpses.

Imagine the melts if DGB makes it this year only to seek a trade as his contract expires!

been a while since I've posted in this thread!

1. Don't understand how Ginnivan manages to piss people off. Yes he ducked a lot but aside from that, and he stopped doing it - how does the guy have such a target on his head? I find it weird

2. Weddle - unpopular opinion - I think this guy looks far better than the actual impact he has on the game. For some reason the field doesn't seem to open up as much as when CJ goes for a trot. And unless he's going for goal I don't think he's striking fear into the enemy.

3. Sam is coaching for performance not development. We'll get more wins here but hope we aren't going a season too early on this. Will def be fun to watch.

4. Low body fat percetange shows professionalism but not performance. O'Meara was a beast in six packs and high performance eating - but Dusty has never been ripped and has 2 or 3 colemans. Discpline is awesome awesome but it's gotta go towards things that actually improve impact and performance on game day.

5. Ginnivan/Chol/Gunston - we can't expect all 3 to have best season ever. I reckon one will thrive, one will middle and one will struggle.

6. Bailey Smith - not gonna celebrate his ACL. Lower price = lower output. Some guys come back well from an ACL but I reckon clubs know which ones will and which won't based on rehab and medical reports etc. If we pay a low price it's because we epect a low output.

1. You can't understand how a cheeky, in-your-face, brat of a kid could piss people off? Actually, he had a lot of love at Collingwood and this board has been pretty enthusiastic about him - even though he is no superstar (as yet). However, I have no doubt he will seriously piss off opposition supporters (for entirely understandable reasons).
2. Weddle vs CJ? I am not sure that is a meaningful comparison given CJ is five years older Both are gifted athletes who like to carry the ball. Both are capable of running themselves into trouble. CJ has a bit more agility. You could make the argument that both look better than their numbers would suggest. This might be one to come back to in a year or two - my money would be on Weddle.
3. Performance rather than development? Not sure about that. We still have a very young squad and brought in some high-end talent in the recent draft. The game plan is a work in progress. However, I broadly agree with you that winning will matter more in 2024 - Sam will want to see not only that players understand the game plan but that they can deliver it in the heat of battle.
4. Agreed
5. Ginnivan/Chol/Gunston. I am pretty sure Gunston is not going to have his best season ever. Players rarely do at 32 and he has had some damn good seasons in the past. I can't see why not for the other two - and will be disappointed if they don't.
6. Smith? Nice if we can pick him up but he would not be my priority if we are chasing serious talent. I would be going for a KPD or a KPF.

Absolutely, pure luck. Which is why clubs draft players randomly, why they rarely hold training sessions, because everything that happens on game day just comes down to chance.
I like those odds

Really? I play the man a fair bit here but that doesn’t extend to making jokes about people’s family.
Apologies, Ned. Was only a joke, but obviously in bad taste.
