Houston thing is kind of interesting now. If we can get a late first rounder we should play hard ball with that and maybe future 2nd or 3rd. Pick 5 is off limits.

Port can't afford to keep him salary cap wise with everything coming in. Pies don't have a 1st, Carlton say theirs is off limits, Saints have cooled on him which only really leaves the doggies who will have 2 late 1sts (after smith trade).

Zero chance in coming to Melbourne. That horse has absolutely bolted with that and we're not willing to split our pick 5 unless something ridiculous comes up.

The club wants to top up with elite talent at the pointy end of the draft and feel that with our pick we can grab a genuine top 3 talent in the draft.

I really hope this is the case

The Dogs traded this years first rounder last year, I think to Gold Coast to get Sanders. They'll only have the pick they bring in for Smith and next years first. I really don't see a team willing to meet Port's demands, so unless the price drops greatly or a club finds a player that wants to go the other way I think Houston stays.

lol @ thinking Lamb wouldn’t trade pick 5 for Houston.

Who are you blokes kidding. He will probably throw in some extra picks on top of it.

Weird? A model major general? An enigma wrapped in a riddle? A Citizen of Bordertown?
This is really funny MM. Bigfooty should really let me give a post more likes.

Geez, so really no competition as far as what port wants.

There is 0-1% chance that Houston is at Port next year. Wanting 2 first rounders is a bluff, set a high bar, acting like they will just happily keep him. They can't afford to keep him. They at best might end up with two late first rounders - which is better than it sounds as they will end up in the 20's after f/s and academy picks.

If it helps, I did get told that pick 5 will be used to bring in young talent from the draft, one way or another (trading up or splitting or whatever).

I don’t think we will throw pick 5 at a senior player.

I really want to get a player or two early on in this draft. Which may mean other than Campbell Derksen and maybe a Owie type we’ll be trading for picks. The before mentioned players won’t move the needle much. But the current coaches etc will be banking on a bit of improvement in some of he young guys plus some luck with the likes of Trac and Clarry etc.

It helps Demon.

Thank you

Houston's double backflip on leaving Port is impressive. Feels like when he publicly stated he would stay Port were like "Be kinda cool if you didn't."

Maybe he was banking on Hinkley getting the arse by now, but since he hasn't he's entertaining trades again. Every page the Sack Hinkley thread grows by without a sacking just ups his desire to leave!

I really don't think the Port players feel that way about Hinkley. The hate seems purely external.

This is what I think (please be quiet while Gander states what she thinks).

Houston was practically sown up as coming to Melbourne, likely because lotsa money.

It all cooled off a bit when our club exploded, and Houston/manager thought if he’s coming back to Melbourne it might be wise to explore options.

Somewhere some media guy wrestled the “I’m staying at Port” thing. A) because playing finals, B) because he has to stay if none of the irons in the fire heat up, and C) because people say dumb Scully shit from time to time.

If it is back on with Melbourne it seems likely because after exploring options, we are the ones who will pay the silly money and nobody else came to the table.

I hope the rumour is just a rumour. This isn’t what we need.

Yeah Houston would be the last thing we need, esp, re, price tag. Also the dude needed to be clear on what he wants to do. Either see out his contract at Port or cut it short to come to Victoria. Can't live in Bordertown.

Also nice 3rd person work there

Gander thanks you for this.

Houston to Carlton makes me feel a little unwell. They have got a lot of decent players through the door recently; their accountants must be as good as their tribunal lawyers. I find it funny to see them fluff their lines still, but it's only a matter of time before it clicks I fear. The list is just too good. I can't see what they'd give Port though. Plus Carlton would be a premiership rival to Port...does that play a factor at all? North or the Saints might be a decent shout.

Would we contemplate next year's F1 for Houston? I quite rate him due to how good a kick he is. We need that badly. Can't see it happening though. Trac scared him right off.

Pick 5 should go towards the best midfield kick in the draft, whoever that is. A Gulden type would be nice.

Aside from his kicking, pick 5 is way too much. Plus he doesn't know whether he is Arthur or Martha, going left or right. Today he is adamant that he is staying in Port, tomorrow he wants to play for a Victorian club, after-morrow he might want to play in WA. He needs to make his mind up

Think it's pretty clear that a move to Vic was always his intention, he just wanted to shift the focus away from himself and reduce the distraction while Port were entering a finals campaign.

Be that as it may, Pick 5 better not going anywhere near these hypothetical discussions. Great player, but absolutely not something we should be doing unless he goes and spends his post-season trip with Clarry, and Port offloads him nice and cheap as a result.

Murphy had a hot start in the opening quarter of the grand final, active with his chase and pressure acts and having a hand in a number of productive Dragons moves. He was slowed in the second when Ollie Hannaford matched up on him through the middle and out competed him at ground level. Unfortunately for Murphy he was caught in a heavy chase down tackle early in the third quarter which forced him from the field with what looked to be a knee injury, and he took no further part in the game. At the time of writing this, we don't have any official word on how severe the injury is.

You think his injury will affect his draft position or not really?
