It’s clear that if pick 6 was on the table, it wasn’t long. No negotiation was entered into & it was taken & split to get other deals done.
Belly didn’t knock back anything & shouldn’t be judged on losing 6, because it was never seriously there imo.

The signals from trade week that we are holding out for a good deal. That's a good sign. Bell in that respect is the judge of what the best deal on the table is, and we might take it last minute to assist hill get his move, and fans might be disappointed but I wouldn't go slamming Bell for doing his job of making the most of a Saint Kilda shit sandwich where they haven't had currency from the start

If the Saints don't have the currency for the sandwich then we walk away with it which is a perfectly fine outcome.

It has definitely cleared up recently that 6 wasn't really on the table for long enough

Still though if we end up with a bad deal Bell should still be criticised seeing as we can keep him.

I fear that constructing that makes it a very Brad Scott Northy looking team, thereabouts but not good enough
Not really. These players are upgrades on who we'd be trotting out next year (Giro, Banfield, Crowden). After that it would be kids that were just drafted.

He’ll get criticised either way as some will say we should have kept Hill.
But it’s clear that Belly’s not rolling over & squeezing them for everything, otherwise it would have been done by now.

Logically yeah I agree. Practically I wonder whether doing that is considered poor form from the player manager side and generally accepted player welfare practices. Geelong can get away with it as being ballsy. We'll get crucified because the media over in the east doesn't know us, and is guided by dickheads in the west pushing bias. Same as the current Daniher discussions

People are entitled to their opinions I suppose but people seem to be getting carried away with getting some unbelievable deal for Hill and not being objective.

Hill's value will never be higher and a pick around 10 would be what I expect if he was uncontracted.

He's is going home sometime in the next few years so why hold him just for the sake of it?

Are we winning a flag next year, I'd argue not and anyone thinking otherwise is looking through some purple-tinted glasses. Maximise the deal and get overs (a 2nd and best 25 player on top of what we'd otherwise expect is definitely significant overs however you look at it).

Get the kids in the door and start developing them rather than have a player taking up the spot of a kid we'd rather be developing

10 and a future second plus Acres is a crap deal for someone of Hill's quality with 2 years left.

He is our third best player and contracted for two more years.

St Kilda will cough up but the best result really is that Brad plays for Fremantle next season. We need to get better and he is a significant player towards that goal.

We don’t have a Gold Coast handout. We don’t have a plethora of father sons. Our NGA is apparently one of the best, but it may net us a player in the late 1st round who’ll we pay for anyway. We shat the bed list development wise between 2012-2015, not cutting hard enough into our depth players. We need 3 first rounders this year and 3 next year just to stay in touch with the talent at other clubs. Let players like B.Hill walk out for unders, and ‘getting depth’ via fringe players will see us dead cat bounce to about 10th before dropping down again.

Don’t focus on Fyfe’s career, look at Lobb, Hogan, Hamling, Alex Pearce, throw in Taberner, Cox, Darcy, Logue and our KPP are sorted. We need to sort the mids next, then small forwards and we wait for the rewards. We should be aiming for 3 picks in the top 20 each year.

What would you expect for him if uncontracted?
He is not un-contracted so what's the point in discussing it.

If he had 1 more year it would convince me to let him go more easily but 2? Stupidity letting him go for anything less than a premium.

Every single year I go into the new season with the expectation of winning the flag with the realisation the odds are quite low but none the less I still expect to win the thing

Well you and everyone else (rgauci) need a baseline for unders. If you take his uncontracted value as unders then you work up from there to what you think is overs for being contracted

How are we justifying outrage at 10, future 2nd Acres as being not enough overs to let him go
